1:45 in the afternoon yesterday, this SNJ 5 (T-6) ex WW2 Navy trainer airplane had engine failure and with nothing better to land on, the pilot decided the 101 was looking like his best option. He walked away, but the plane didn't make it. |
I saw that on TV. Glad the pilot walked away, really sad to lose the plane. That plane was part of the Condor Squadron based at Van Nuys Airport. I've seen that plane fly in formation with the rest of the squadron many times. They fly all around SoCal for a number of holidays during the year. Nothing like the sound of 5 or 6 of those flying overhead and banking turns.

We had a good relationship with the Air Force base and would occasionally exchange managers for the day. Naturally we laughed when it got back to us that the guys at the Air Force base said "...look at those clowns. All they do is drive around all day". K |

One Sunday afternoon they had a vintage aircraft go down on our property (a Corsair if I remember correctly). It landed out next to the Ride and Handling loop where we would do shock absorber tuning. They had the mess cleaned up and within about 2 hours you couldn't tell anything had ever happened there. K |
I was TDY to Williams from Cannon AFB in 65' -- worked the new F-5 at that time ... program was called Skoshi Tiger. From there we took the "Freedom Fighter" to Bien Hoa. As a side note -- ran a number of drag races at Beeline and PIR ... TAZ

It doesn't say anything in the ad about a step-ladder being included so I guess you have to get your own. |
