Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe

Ryan, PLEASE take some advice here, my friend. DO NOT RACE THE ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT ENGINE!!! I can't stress this enough!!! What you have there is EXTREMELY RARE and VERY hard to find. If you wanna race.... GREAT, but DO NOT RACE THE "GOOD" ENGINE!!! Build another 1969 Olds 350 (like I did) and have your machine shop build you a nice set of #5 heads (like I did) and redo the replacement engine stock and just keep it. Remember what I said the very first time we spoke? Don't get rid of anything. W-31 stuff looks just like regular 1969 Olds parts, except for the carb and balancer (which you shouldn't race with either). Build the CE engine stock and use the balancer and carb (255)on THAT engine. Same goes for the trans. and rear if you can get dated (but not original to your car) parts. You have some VERY GOOD STUFF......DON'T BLOW IT UP!!!! Blow up the other parts!!!
Now, for some more advice.....talk to some of the guys that do the Pure Stock Drags, or the Super Car Series, or call me (don't want to really discuss finances on an open forum) and find out just what it takes to race.....often.......and competitively. You need to look at this with an open mind, and discuss it with your family (wife) first. It takes a WHOLE FREAKIN' LOT of TIME and MONEY to do it. "Many get the itch, but few have the scratch".
I'm not trying to overwhelm you or scare you out of anything, but PLEASE don't race with your "GOOD" parts and consult with others as to the commitment it takes to race.
What you see on the surface at those races is NOT what you think it is. Much like an NHRA Stock/Super Stock, that kind of racing takes more thinking, spending, testing, spending, and then a lot more spending to be at the top of the ladder. Call me and we can discuss what my Oldsmobile friends and myself are running and what it takes to do it. "It ain't easy".

Thanks guys for the advice!

I do listen (contrary to what The Mrs says) I will save the original items and prep the extra's for the street. I don't have any intentions of being competitive at PSMCDR. Just have to try it!

I will call one night so we can chat Oldsmobile again!

Ryan

PS: I love feedback and don't take offence to opinions differing from mine!

x3 on the original engine part and racing. Attended the '01 pure stocks with a 70 stage 1. Auto car I was shifting myself...spun a bearing after an over rev. Guys were coming up to me asking if it was original engine and most stated they had theirs on the shelf at home.
