Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
I still have nightmares about trailering my old hemi ragtop years ago in that blizzard. Can you imagine flat toeing that Camaro on that dinky trailer hitch for 3000 miles behind that Chevelle? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif Imagine the brake fade coming down the mountains. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
Addressing a few items: The RS emblems represent Roberto Schneiders initials and were installed by Joel Rosen as a tribute due to the magnitude of the purchase and RS's family background. They are present in photos of the car new, and when found in the late 80's. I have all the original RS and 427 emblems the car was born with. This includes the front grill where the RS emblem has never been removed. In addition the original order invoice specifically calls for removal of all SS emblems.
As far as other stories, I have a series of photos chronicling Roberto's arrival on his 2nd trip to NY to pay the balance and take delivery. This includes a photo of JR prepping one of his open chambered Tahiti boats. RS was taken for one wild ride. He told me he actually hoped JR would back off. In the end he had to as the Long Island police in a helicopter stopped them for speed in excess of 100mph. JR was issued a $150 ticket. And yes Sam I did kick the back end of the car on the golf cart path en route to the field but was respectful of the fairway unlike the Trans Am cars. |
Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
Awesome! Those two cars are now my favorite pair of supercars. Gorgeous.

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
------I just keep coming back to this thread and it gets better and better. I have to say that even with all the press the green car has gotten over the years and its magnificent condition I simply would kill for that Chevelle. Of the two thats IT for me.........Bill S

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
Mike,
Great job posting the pictures. This is an incredible car with an equally incredible history. Having the Camaro twin and the WayneS Yenkos at the show was the icing on the cake. A great weekend of muscle car overload. Hat's off to Mark, Jim and Wayne for displaying some of the best of Muscle Car history. Phil Woj. |
Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
First off AWESOME CARS!!!!I have been reading this thread since it started and all I can say is WOW!Great story and history.
I can't believe noone has asked or invited them to SCR11.Not that they need a invitation.I know I for one would love to see these masterpieces up close and personal. Kendall |
Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
That is a great question https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
The history of these two cars is like no other. Mark had some early photos of the pair in front of Motion performance. In the one shot you could even see the bumper hitch on the Chevelle. Gives you goosebumps. Mike |

<font color="red">" I can't believe noone has asked or invited them to SCR11" </font>
I don't think anyone gets special invites, we just fill out the registration form, load up the trailers, bring plenty of money for diesel and chips and hit the road https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif Here is the link for the registration. https://www.yenko.net/misc/entryform.htm Maybe Dreemz can forward it to Jim L. I for one wouldn't mind lining up to one of those Baldwin Motion cars at the track!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
...heck...I'd push Mark's Chevelle all the way from Arizona to get it to the Reunion cause it's SOOOOO COOL!...

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
Mike, Thanks for posting the pictures, they are great! What are the wheel and tire sizes on the Chevelle? Thanks https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
Do not remember, the backs are larger than the front, Mark will have to answere that for you, sorry.
I enjoyed posting the pic's. I always love to look at the great shots from other parts of the US and "Oh-Canada". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Mike |
Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
I've had several inquires about the wheels and tires. As I had previously posted they are the original Torque Thrusts that were on the car when it left LI in Sept 1970- 14x6s in front and 15x8.5s in the rear. The original order invoice shows "Special INDY tires $200.00". The original photos of the car new show red line tires with the above mentioned wheels. I believe the rears are L70s. To replicate as close to original as possible, I had Diamondback Classics custom fabricate them on bias ply L60x15s rear and F70x14s front. Bill Chapman at DB Classics only wanted to build them on a radial type tire but I wanted an original look. After some trial and error (some tires sacraficed) they came out great. They are great folks to work with. Bill informed me they will hold up just fine during a burnout and they are truly very close to what came on the car.

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
I have been reading this thread from the start and I have to say those two cars, and the history of them, are unbelievable. I am a Dodge guy and don't usually even like Chevelles, but that car is just RIGHT! The Camaro is awesome too.
(I can't believe I just said that about a GM) |

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
I had to bring this thread back!!! I just love the story and the cars!!
Did the "rest of the story" ever get told??? How about some of those old photos!!! From the original post: "It is just a fraction of the amazing history of these two cars as well as his life. In fact, were not much of it documented with original photos, it is almost unbelievable. Roberto sent me home with personal family photo albums." Where was the Chevelle found? When did the original owner sell it? Perhaps a new thread could be set up with the whole story and just the pics of the cars. |
Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
The original owner never sold either car. Each was given to one of Roberto's friends after he lost interest in the cars. The cars, contrary to popular belief, never were delivered to Mexico. He kept them in a parking garage across the street from the Gateway hotel in El Paso. When he would come up to visit El Paso from Chihuahua City or the ranch in central Chihuahua provence is when he would drive them. Most of the important pictures have been given to Marty Schorr to be published in the new book about the history of Motion performance. Marty is hoping the book will be out the 3rd quarter of this year. He has been putting alot of effort in the book and has secured a publisher.

I don't know where the hell I was when this thread was going on (I have never see it till today), and I am not a fan of Motion cars, but the story and these cars are freakin amazing. Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
With the Motion book coming out I talked with Marty about posting some pics related to the history of these cars as a promo. I don't know which pictures I submitted actually were used. Anyway, this is one of the best-in front of Motion Performance the day of delivery, September 1970, brand new, close to two years after the original order date.

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
Check out the Phase III GT parked next to the Camaro. I'm wondering if this car ended up with Otis Chandler and then on to Kevin Suydam

Re: BEST OF BALDWIN MOTION
Roberto proving to his friends did indeed have two Baldwin -Motion cars built. Remember these cars where held in storage on Long Island awaiting permits from the president of Mexico (Gustavo Diaz Ordaz) so that the cars could be bought directly into the country. Unfortunately, only one permit was issued and the cars never made it into Mexico. Additionally, the administration changed (President Luis Echavarria Alvarez) and Robertos' father-in-law, the governor of Chihuahua (Oscar Flores) did not have the same relationship with him
