Looking Great! I`m assuming you will debut the El Camino at 2008 Chevel-Abration? You`ve already got my vote https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif Dan. |

Bill, Looking Great! I`m assuming you will debut the El Camino at 2008 Chevel-Abration? You`ve already got my vote https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif Dan. [/ QUOTE ] Well Dan, as far as bringing the ElCamino to Chevell-Abration, yes and no. As you know, each year they have a certain model Chevelle they feature, and this year it's 68-72 SS El Camino's, so rather than killing myself trying to get it finished by the end of May, my plan is to bring the finished chassis only. As of tonight, the chassis is ready for the trip. I got the smog system in place, and that was the last hurdle. Quick question for anyone who knows. The small vacuum hose going from the diverter valve to the carb. How does it hook into the carb? Does it require a tee or something? The only vac source is for the choke. I can't tell from the assembly manual, and it's a totally different set-up from my 68 Chevelle. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/data/500/smog.jpg |
Re: New project coming along
Bill,
Looking great. Yes a tee is required. There is a prior thread about this topic awhile back. I`ll see if I can dig it up for you. See you and your Frame at CB2008. Dan. |

Since he's pretty much posted the same question in every forum??? |
Re: New project coming along
We talked about this recently and posted some pictures that might help you out.
(Obviously exclude the TCS solenoid for your 69) Yours would've used a 3-way Tee,farthest to left in that dark pic I posted and plugged both the distributor Vac. line & diverter valve line into the outlet in the carb. base on the P/S front. Click HERE. |
Re: New project coming along
Update: I sent the body out to be blasted on Fri. Got it back today (Tues). It looks great! No rust to speak of. A few small areas of mild pitting, which will be easy to fill. Gonna start the plasti work in the bed first. It's got the typical small dings in the bed floor, and a few on the sides, but not bad at all.

I've gone double or nothing on a corn dog wager that your call will be ready for Chevellabration! Not just the Chassis!

Yes, it should be ready for Chevellabration, but not the year you're thinking of https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif unless you meant CB09 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif I'm not rushing it. The plastic/paint work will take time. The hard part, replacing the rocker, quarter, and door skin, is finished. Actually that only took a few days. Now it's blocking time. That takes time on any car. I knocked both my Chevelles out in less than a year, but Chevelles are easier, with no bed to deal with. |

To give everybody what Bill is working with and the quality of work that he is doing. This is how the car looked when I brought it home.

Re: New project coming along
Can't you just take it to get some Rhino Lining sprayed in there????

It would save me a week or so, blocking out the bed huh??....or maybe a bed liner. |

Re: New project coming along
Actually my goal is to have the bed floor as straight as the rest of the car, and just as orange. I get jokes like, now we'll have a truck to take to the shows, that can hold the lawn chairs, coolers, etc. Not gonna happen!

Re: New project coming along
I applaud you for that alone.

Re: New project coming along
Quick up-date on the ElCamino. Nothing very exciting to show in more pictures, but I've been very busy with body work. I've been spending a lot of my free time at my buddy's body shop, doing all the plastic work. He's nice enough to let me use a corner of the shop to create a whole bunch of plastic dust, so I don't have it in my garage at home. Getting the small dents out of the bed was the biggest task, but it looks much better. The roof had some holes under the vinyl top, which were repaired by welding in a few patches, then some plastic. It came out real nice. The body work is finished and it's ready for primer, then blocking begins. Hope to have it primed by this time next week.

Re: New project coming along
I haven't posted progress pics for a couple weeks, so I thought I'd show you guys what's been going on with the ElCamino project. Been pretty busy for the last few weeks. All the body/metal work is finished. I shot primer on the whole body today. The doors and tailgate are ready for orange paint. The quarters and bed are ready for sanding primer. Then they have to be blocked out. The rest of the body is easy stuff, like painting the bottom black, and the interior red oxide, as it was from the factory. The plan is to finish up the quarters this week and maybe the bed, then I'm taking some time off for the Chevelle show in Nashville, where I will have the ElCamino chassis. Anyone going to the show, stop in and say hello. It will be under a tent near the vendors...

Re: New project coming along
Thanks once again for the feedback guys. I worked all day yesterday on prepping the quarters and bed for sanding/filler primer. I will be there first thing tomorrow, with a spray gun full of filler primer. All the primer sanding should be finished before the trip to Nashville next week. Looking forward to the trip. and seeing you guys. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Bill anymore updates?

Re: New project coming along
Not much to update with pictures Mark. I've spent a bunch of my free time sanding primer. The quarters, roof, doors, tailgate, door jambs, are all ready for orange. The hood is new, so I'm hoping it won't be much work. Still have to do a final primer/blocking of the bed. Then the nos fenders will be last. I also spent some time tracking down a few parts, I still needed. I pretty much have everything I need now. I have some stainless steel polishing to do, and I think the car will be ready to assemble after paint. Albert got us both complete wire harnesses kits for both cars, so we're all set with wires. It's all down hill now. Just have to find the time to finish it all up. More pics soon.
