a 270 casting 427 block is an early 69 casting..... must have waited a few months to do the conversion [/ QUOTE ] 270's were stopped in Oct 68 when the 512 block was introudced. This block is dated I 8 8 For Sept 8, 1968 |

Re: DANA "427" Camaro found...thanks to Jeff Chlupsa
Not to change the subject but, my old Gibb 427 car had a 270 block in it. I never even thought about it being the org. transplanted motor. The reason was I knew Ray Morrison car had a different # block so that's what I bought. The block I had was two days off from Ray's block. Heck maybe that motor was the org???

The bare 321 block and the {270 motor that was in the car} was sold to Kevin. The day I sorted parts it was earmarked to go with the car.

I find it quite interesting that Dana would use a SB SS for a 427 conversion. [/ QUOTE ] Shops such as Dana, Motion, etc., would transplant 427s into any Camaro (or Chevelle, etc.) that was brought in. Original owner of this car probably got tired of the stock 350 and took the car to Dana for the more exciting 427 swap. If a customer had Dana order such a conversion car brand-new then they usually ordered an L78 car with all the strong driveline and suspension parts from the factory, then pulled the 396 and put in the 427 and added the various customer-desired speed-parts. Great car by the way. Cragars! CA black plates and frames! Great to see the hood remained with the car. |

Steve... or Brian...
CRG is doing a research project on original 68 RS Grilles and they are looking for cars built in the time period your new purchase was built... I am sure they would greatly appreciate any info you would or could provide... they are interested in the cars with the silver bar grilles which yours appears to be... there apparently was a mid year change... here is the link... it is long but worth the read if you have an interest in the change... http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=1087.0;all James |

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks John...I'd like to figure a way to get Bert [the previous owner] there too for SCR-10 and maybe make a couple passes down the track before frame-off resto commences. That would truly be a highlight of the event for me to watch Bert jam gears in the Dana Camaro one-more-time. Thanks to EVERYONE for the kind remarks. It was, at times, a nerve racking couple of years waiting for Bert to decide it was time/place to sell his special car. Can't say as I blame him for being somewhat reluctant. SS |
Re: DANA "427" Camaro found...thanks to Jeff Chlupsa
Cool find! Seems odd to take a small block AC car to do the 427 conversion to. I was looking at the work order and which part of the order specifies the 427 conversion? I see lots of cool parts and some high dollar amounts but I didn't notice the specific conversion wording. And it's really odd to see a block cast in Sept 68 not get built until Mar of 69. But the date obviously lines up great with the April 69 conversion. I still find it amazing people hold onto cars that long without using them much at all but it makes for some great finds and great history! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

[/ QUOTE ] I didn't post that page of the work order yet showing the 427 numbers...I need to sift back thru 125 pics and get that one downsized, then posted after work later today. There's also another single spaced full page listing EVERY seal and gasket and so-on. The work order sheet I already posted was the summary page of a 3 page invoice. SS |

Congrats Steve... As I told you privately, you wouldn't regret pulling the trigger, and your choice of resto shops couldn't be better... Hats off to Jeff C for working the deal and keeping this one of the best kept secret supercar finds ever... I know it was tough to contain my excitement the first time i heard of it's existance...I must say there was awhile there when i didn't think a deal was ever gonna be made. So glad it was... The new pics of the car look teriffic, and the paperwork is nothing short of amazing! Perhaps the coolest thing about this whole deal is the prospect of my best buddies in the hobby working together to bring this car back to life. With sCw on the job, its without question going to be a showstopper, and one of the coolest Camaros on the planet! Now if we can just talk bkh into leaving the islands and coming back to snowy PA.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif
