Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
yea, same guy bought the 70 LS6 ragtop and the ZL1 Camaro for less than the price of the race LS6 ragtop.
Who got the better deal? |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
Same guy got a steal on the last L-88 vette built. That guy got 3 awesome buys IMO.

$450K for a ZL-1?? That seems to be the steal of the auction unless there is an issue with the car. I thought another one sold recently for almost twice that amount. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I was wondering what the deal on that was too, especially after they said it was an ex DH race car. |

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I think the Bobby Alison hemi wing car was a real steal at $300K. Seems like the big dogs called it an early night. Some real bargains within the last 30 minutes.
|
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I'm thinking some of the big dogs went to Pavillions/Russo for some "shopping". I had eight different offers on my car..."sorry, not for sale sir" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I thought that Pontiac Banshee was the steal of the auction at 195k..considering the other concept cars were in the millions.Quite a few items on that car made it into production vehicles several years after.
Other random thoughts- Green seems to be quite an acceptable color all of a sudden. LS6 Rag fetches more than a ZL1. Ray Allen car woke the place up-hands down the fave with the announcers and crowd(pre futureliner) Ford drag cars soft. |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I saw the #9 Z-L1 at the Rand Workman auction in NY this past September And it was a tired car needing attention. But still at 450 you could do a full frame off and still be sitting pretty in that one. They also said Dick Harrell owned it.

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I have '69 Malibu doors here and they certainly appear to be drilled at the front and rear edges to retain the lower Malibu trim. In Oshawa, bodies were not "banked". They were scheduled and mated up with the scheduled chassis in general assembly. The fenders and rear panels were pierced originally. Perhaps these are not original Malibu doors. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
On the info page they disclosed that the # 9 ZL1 was a rebody. That probably had a effect on price. The bidding frenzy seemed to peak at the futurliner and then fizzled.

I was expecting to see the 70 Hemi Cuda Convert that Charley drove up on the block bring 2.5-3.0, boy was I wrong. The 71 Hemi Cudas are still the heavy hitters there. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

James The prototype just sold for $450,000 [/ QUOTE ] There was something stange about the bidding for the BM Camaro. It seemed to stall at $300K and then they worked real hard to get it moving, finally ending at $450K. I was wondering if Motion bought the car back at $450K to show they are worth his kind of money since they are listing them for $427K. It would be impossible to sell any at $427K back here on earth if they couldn't get anymore than that at BJ. |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I thought it was a little embarassing how slowly the B-M Camaro was bid. That long pause in the middle and that one bidder shaking his head 'no' on camera at making another bid just made its time on the block seem awkward to me.

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
There were several cars that the auctioner took a breather on to regroup and nudge the bidders -------------Look at the new shelby------it stalled at 300k the bidding took a breather and it climbed steadily to 600k---The concept chrysler car stalled nervously at 800k--they regrouped and they managed to get it to 1.1mil.-----------Sometimes the bidding goes so fast some bidders just need that extra time to see if they can affort it or in the big dogs case if they really want it----------I REALLY don't think Motion bought it back.......That's a nice climb from 300k to 450k......My hat goes off to the Motion team for pulling this first effort off....
|
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
Yeah Joe, I was impressed at how the auctioneers used pauses to get the crowd and bidders back into it but I would have liked to see the Motion car get a couple hundred K more.
|
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I think they were very disappointed with the Motion car. I would think they imagined it would bring at least around 600 or more.
|
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I would have liked to see it go to 500k --you know a little cushion---And an extra 100k or 200k would have made the team do backflips,--after a tense minute or two they did make their target and that was the mission.....

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
Agree..we are humanbeings after all,so it is not a perfect process.
There was a situation Friday where a car was gaveled SOLD and drove away..There was a distant bidder in the seats screaming at the gavel he was willing to bid more then the winning bid, with an auction Capt. next to him doing the same. But to no avail,as the gavel did not hear them and announced the bidding was ultimately closed. But what also happened was two seperate other people both thought they were the winning bid on that car, smiling & shaking hands with thier respective friends..So the podium announced they would reopen the bidding again to settle this between the two who thought they both won it at the exact same price.Once they reopened it,the distant bidder who was willing to bid more ended up out bidding both of them and became the winner. It can be confusing sometimes. |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I was suprised to see that Motion Camaro do $450K. I also thought is was VERY unfair that they spent so much time on that car when others were quick sold.
All I can say is that I have never heard of a REAL BM car do $450K so how in the heck do they expect to have a line of people waiting to drop $450K on that thing? Like the announcers said, that car does not have much in common with the BM cars from the glory days other than in name. |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I was laughing, you could hear the panic in Chip Foose's voice when he was saying how this wasn't a Over Haulin car, it wasn't built in a week!!
|
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
Any thoughts?
Ya - it's all Bullshit! |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
The common theme seems to be people will pay extra money for a name or a statistic with a vehicle. I don't know what to really think other than this situation only happens once a year so don't think these prices will occur again until next Jan.

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
I saw a couple of guys with a winning bid and the auctioners arm is locked on the 3rd and final call sometimes a little longer than called for, which cost some fellas a car ........
What I didn't know was that FORD is offering turn race cars from the factory----just like back in the day https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif |

Was the 66 360HP Chevelle an original or restored car? Does anyone know the lot #?
Thanks, Jason |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
Are you referring to the unrestored low mileage RED one?
|
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
The only thoughts I have is why would you spend 205K plus BJ fees for a car you haven't even inspected in person? I would expect a car that has 11K original miles not to have a Walker exhaust system, black NAPA shocks, replacement master cylinder, water pump, incorrect tires, glass windshield wiper bottle and the heat shield between the carb and manifold. Did anyone notice the big hood pin holes in the core support? For 11K miles there was also a lot of wear on the pedals. Just my thoughts.

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
THE 66 SS WAS AN UNRESTORED CAR. I WAS BIDDING ON IT UNTIL THE PRICE WENT INTO ORBIT. FEW THINGS UNDER HOOD THAT WERE CHANGED BUT ALL IN ALL AN EXCELLENT CAR. THE WHITE INTERIOR WAS AWESOME... KP

Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
Hey guys...back to homebase.
Well,B-J was a scene...and it was great to meet Bruce (Xplantdad),Tony (Mr T),George Lyons and Kenny Pascoe...all really great people and fun to be with.I'm sorry I couldn't spend more time with you guys but my friends had me running in several directions. Bruce really needs a hand for all his hard work every year and for all he does for SYC...my hats off to him! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif And Bruce...you were right about Pavillions...it was nuts! There was No way we were going to check out all the cars, and there was some great ones. For some strange reason...I could not post from AZ...said my password wasn't valid. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif My thoughts: Joel Rosen and the boys will sure have a tough time selling nine cars (They told me #1,2 & 12 are already sold)for asking price when they couldn't squeeze the mil or so they were expecting for this one.I was also told by BM that this car was optioned to sell for $489K so they didn't even bring that. Not sure if anybody noticed but the upper rad hose on the car was that fake braided "look" hose with the fake end covers hiding the hose clamps...certainly not in keeping with a car of this caliber. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif We saw the V-10 Viper-powered "six-shooter" '70 Cuda convertible SELL AGAIN (?) today at 3:30.It sold "today" for $130K...I thought I saw it go last night (lot #1278)for $160K...anyone know? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif As someone mentioned:Green does seem to have returned in vogue as a favored color. Anything with a Hemi goes through the roof.Recreation, clone,or the real thing...doesn't matter. Have not figured out why rare LS-6 verts and ZL-1 Camaro's haven't brought similar money. I spoke to a lot of nervous sellers in the staging lanes.A lot of cars weren't bringing the money and there were some good buys late. I was surprised the Banshee didn't bring more than $195K. Musclecars rule...and that trend will just continue at B-J next year.A lot of the vendors I spoke to said sales of Ferrari stuff was none exsistant. The whole experience was just great and it's something you've got to do at least once in a lifetime.Think Pebble Beach...kicked up a notch...and you have Barrett-Jackson. It was great being on stage with Kenny and George. My wife called me crying to tell me she saw me on TV. |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
Glad to see you made it back home safe John. It was fun talking to you and your buddies.
You're right, B-J is an amazing event...you have to go at least once...or two or three or four times... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: Any thoughts on the B-J auction...?
How much did that interesting looking Motion car sell for? Joel's latest project. Why can't he just make 69 Motion Camaro's again?? Isn't there a lesson he could learn from the guys at Unique Performace??
