Re: Fake Yenko Beats Real Yenko in show
"I'm sure the cars were all very very nice...what are the judges supposed to do call it a tie for everyone ? People need to quit whining over judges decisions and trying to blame people for not scoring higher than another car. It's just a car show. What do these people think there are SYC spies running around trying to make sure all the 4 dollar trophies go to members ?"

Re: Fake Yenko Beats Real Yenko in show
I would enjoy seeing the gentlemans car. Please do bring it to the show. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and some of these imitations are downright flattering. Its when people try to pass them off as the real thing that burns me. I may run up there that weekend to check out the show.

Re: Fake Yenko Beats Real Yenko in show
When reading your "please do" post it came across, to me,that you were telling the other member to yes indeed park his car away from the others. That kind of scrambled my eggs. After reading Sam's post the question is asked as to what you indeed meant and your second post clarifies exactly what you were intending to say.
Glad we got that cleared up https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Now back to having a cool weekend. |
Re: Fake Yenko Beats Real Yenko in show
No doubt he was telling Chuck to bring his car. The park it away in the corner was Chucks remark and knowing Chuck, the car would not be parked in the south 40 but up in the mix of the other fine Camaro's that the local club has on hand and his car would be welcomed with open arms. I would like to see it as well Chuck. I have seen plenty of pics of the car but nothing compares to seeing a car in person.

Yeah that is fine and dandy Jeff but wonder what his deal is insulting the way the show is set up. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: Fake Yenko Beats Real Yenko in show
Now that I am exhausted from reading this thread, here are my thoughts. I don't own a supercar, or COPO of any kind, just a lowly 08A, 10 10, X77 D80, 69 Z/28 that was rode hard and put up wet before I bought it in 1976. Rescued it from becoming a "roundy rounder". Even though it only had 26,000 miles on it, it was hurting. Inner fenders and sway bar had been removed with the hillbilly "blue tip wrench" to save weight. But the car was straight, relatively rust free, and had never been hit. I didn't pay much for it, but I bought it because it was obviously a true Z/28 and I knew someday I would want to restore it. I even bought all the rubber parts, new emblems, (emblems had been stolen) new hood (also stolen along with the air cleaner, and yes, it was one of the few that actually came with the ducted hood) etc. in 1977, knowing that parts availability could be a problem after 10 years or so.
I personally was offended every time I ran across a fake Z. Remember an article in PHR around 1978 entitled "Spotting Fake Z's" as it was already a problem by the late 70's. Just a few thoughts about many of the different topics covered in this thread. 1. Personally, I don't like clones, tributes, recreations, or whatever you want to call them. While each owner has the right to do whatever he wants to with his car, the opportunity for abuse, deception and outright fraud is definitely increased. This is less of a problem for Yenko's because of the research / documentation of dedicated enthusiasts. Z/28 buyers are much more likely to be defrauded. Amazing that they made @ 20,000 of them in 69 and now there are 30,000 for sale!!!!! 2. Personally do not like rebody jobs either. Just accept the fact that the car in question was either wrecked beyond repair, burned, or turned to a pile of rubble by mean old Mr. Rust. 3. Depending upon the criteria of the judging, I can see how a "copy" could beat an original. We put on a small Camaro show in OKC each father's day. Usually about 40 cars entered, and some are very nice. However, we use a very simple judging format that does not take into account casting dates, authenticity, etc. 25 points each for a)body, b)interior, c) engine compartment, and d) tires & wheels. The participant's decide what category they are in. So if a car is mostly original, but has aftermarket wheeels, it could end up competing against an original Z with true YH ralleys, or a fake Z with FW ralleys. No points or deductions for originality. So, it may all depend upon the judging criteria. The car in question may have just been the best looking one there. I really don't understand why this would even cause a stir. 4. There will never be agreement among the enthusiasts regarding clone cars. Heck, some guys on this board even defend the trim tag makers, something I personally think should be outlawed. That is where most of the deception is happening. Just accept that there are different points of view. "No two people ever saw the same rainbow". Don't remember who said it, or I would give them credit. Going to go take a nap now. Lynn |

Re: Fake Yenko Beats Real Yenko in show
Jeff, You were right on the mark.......I was just making another poor attempt to be sarcastically funny about bringing my clone and where I should park it. I have always stated everywhere that my 69 Camaro is a clone. It is a pretty good looking cosmetic clone.....(except for one paint problem yet to be fixed)......but with most numbers being wrong and trim tag not matching.......there would be nobody here I'd ever try to fool.....
My car is a Day 2 Clone in that it has headers, Sun Tach, Stewart Warner Gauges, and a WRONG but nice B&M floor shift. I wanted the column auto to function, but header collectors prevented use of stock linkage. I am driving car to and from SCR8, so no I wont be impressing anybody at Drag Strip with its lack of Power. If I was to break anything, I'd have NO way to get car back to Springfield, IL where my friend Dennis Thomas is so kindly storing car this summer. I drove my "clone" on part of the 2005 Hot ROd Power Tour...which Charley can attest to as he passed me on the way to Nashville.......... later, Chuck S |

Looks like it was a no-sale after a "kid" bid on it? Price has been adjusted down:

Re: Fake Yenko Beats Real Yenko in show
I hve limited access to internet where I currently am so can't read all above comments, but found this thread interesting as i have a bit of personal info on this car. Thot you might be intersted in this info. I believe I sat next to this car for 2 days at Russo & Steele Auction this January. Am not a SYC expert by any stretch but the car was a beauty. A very quality resto. I was surprised at what it went for given the quality of resto and the purported NOS and original parts - I believe if you go to the R&S site you will see that it sold for mid70s or 80K. I am surprised that it took only 8 bidders to rack up the 150K price for this car with such a scant ad - short write up and a few pictures. This one just makes me scratch my head. someone made a ton of money in a very short period of time! Why didn't the r&s auction bring out these kinds of bids?????
