Rick, i applaud your efforts. I too am a Sunoco nut! I can remember filling up at the "wishing well" outside of Pentwater MI during my childhood trips there.
I have gathered as much as I can. I have NOS blend pump bathroom keys (men and womens), credit cards (70 and 73) receipts, credit card holders, handy oilers with blend pumps, the promo radio, a "sunoco air" sign, oil bottle etc. and of course my pump.
Funny thing is, I don;t have a good shot of it. It was restored by a guy who bought 100 of them and does about one every 6 months with the best original parts from his stash.
I hope one day to here your pump ding......I wish mine did (its gutless)

Very very cool and well done on your part!!

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

As far as Chicago is concerned, does anybody know when we lost Sunoco as a gas brand? I saw this sign in the middle of what was an old neighborhood gas station on the 2700 block of south Lawndale in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood. The place is not a gas station anymore but the sign still looks pretty good. Just be careful if you go and look at it as the neighborhood is not that great. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

Hi Frank,

Out in the far west suburbs of Chicago where I lived, Sunoco stations were never plentiful, but there were a few around. My best guesstimate is that they were all gone out there by 1980 or so.

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

I'm not sure when Sunoco disappeared as a gas station around here, but the Meijer superstores (for those that aren't familiar, it's like a Super Wal-Mart) in the Chicago Western Suburbs had Sunoco 260 during the summer months a couple years ago. Cool seeing the logo again... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Bill- I suspect that the Goodyear tire center on 31 just north past downtown Batavia was a Sunoco at one time.

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

Got tired of having to wrestle this around when I wanted to work on it or just needed some elbow room w/the car,so I built a wooden pallet w/wheels that inserts up into the base.
My first design had thin plywood w/plastic wheels that all blew apart the minute I got them under the pump...oops!
I realized since I put the guts in,it now weighs 100's of lbs. more then I figured,so I married two 1-1/2" planks & upgraded to 500 lb. steel wheels w/4"lag bolts and all is well.

As nimble as a Zamboni..

This took me awhile to find and get altogether & is a real nice compliment next to the pump.
It's a vintage 1950-60's REVERE cement island lamp post w/tophat porcelain station light & spots.
I then hung my two vintage unrestored towel boxes w/Sunoco gas grade charts on em.
(courtesy of kwhizz fabricating me some metal straps so as to not drill into the post...THANK YOU KEN!)
It came out better then I expected..

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

I found this nice companion piece for the pump.
A vintage Sunoco station island battery display cart.
I was excited to add it to my collection,as it still had the original 60's era applied advertising decal, and was in very good shape overall.

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/z...erycart007.jpg

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/z...erycart008.jpg

Take note of the side slots in the pic below to the left & right of the decal..

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/z...erycart009.jpg

I asked the seller if he had any batteries or anything else for it.He said,"No..but there was originally a cardboard advertising sign that slid in on top, right between those 2 slots"..He said it was parted away from this many years before he got it,but did believe it was out there somewhere in his vicinity.I thanked him, gave him my contact info should he come across it,and continued to search for it as the years went by.

I did eventually find a nice dry Vintage NOS 1940's display battery, that accents it quite well.

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/z...erycart002.jpg

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/z...erycart003.jpg

I then continued to find alot of Sunoco related memorabila & use the cart to display them on,as they look good on it.

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/z...erycart011.jpg

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/z...erycart012.jpg

....Then I came across something advertised for sale on another site 2 months ago and new exactly what it was.The sign is dated October of 1958.I couldn't reach for my wallet fast enough.
The seller found it in near Albany N.Y.,so it's possible it could be the actual one parted from it years ago.
I met up with him @ Peotones' Oil&Gas last month and my search had finally ended.
Just a neat lil find.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Rick, don't know if you watch that show on History channel. "American Pickers" 2 guys from the Midwest that go around the US treasure hunting. In last night's episode they found this guy in Fla that had an unbelievable, and I mean unbeleivable, stash of vintage and NOS gas pump/signs/garage stuff. You can probably catch it again, they re-run episodes all week. SULLY

Yep...Thanks Sully,caught it lastnight.

Phenomenal collection that guy has hoarded over the years.

Re: 260...It's A Gas!

Just reading back through this post. I notice you said the computer was dated April 70, but the pump was built in 63. So... I guess it isn't "numbers matchin"? Oh well, practically worthless now. I will be glad to do you a favor and take it off your hands. Can I have it?

While looking at a car last year, the owner mentions he used to work @ a Sunoco Station as a teen...I like Sunoco...He then tells me he saved a few items, including the cement island can display they had, before the dismantle.
We couldn't come to an agreement on the car,so as I'm leaving he asks would I like to see the Sunoco items.
I like Sunoco..
Shows me some nick nacks and oil cans.An hour later I come home with this.
