The wheels are classless (IMO), not the car or the owner. But I'm biased because I have a real set of Mickey Thompson Challengers on my car. Aluminum center, chrome rims. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Awesome car Caleb!

Hats off to Brian and Joe of SCW, & Frank Arone. Looks like they just set the bar a mile higher for Day 2 cars! This car needs to be seen in person, it is that cool.

By the way, I know what a wonderful feeling it is to have a young son who is so heavily involved in his car.

Those are great memories I'll always keep with me.

This is a great statement from a great guy. We need the young generation to cherish these cars as much as we do so the legacy can continue. Way cool car Caleb. I bet you are the envy of all your friends (especially those who chose tuner cars!)

Re: Spring Vettefest - Pictures!

Verne do you have any old ads showing a Challenger by chance ? I have an old article showing the 3 ribbed M/T wheel called the M/T #1...I thought they wer calle M/T Raders for some reason.

Seeing the pics on Caleb's ride is enough to get the sleep rubbed out of my eyes and force me back into the garage. The only thing that was missing from those shots was the sound of those dual fours opening up and exiting out those open headers. Something I have been lacking in my diet, the smell of burnt hy-test! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

Westhampton Raceway, is about 10 minute from my home. Sadly it closed last July. That was the last drag strip on the island.

Re: Spring Vettefest - Pictures!

Belair,
I do have a full page black & white ad showing the Challenger mounted with an M/T Super Stock drag slick. There's also another small ad for them in one of my old catalogs, maybe Honest Charley. I don't have anything scanned though.
I know the wheels have often been referred to as "M/T Radars". They do look very similar, but I don't believe Radar ever produced a 3-rib spoke. I've often wondered if Mickey Thompson modified a Radar mold and added the two extra ribs, then marketed his own wheels. Each wheel is cast with "M/T 1965" inside the back of one spoke.
I think they're great looking wheels, but I'm sorry, those "radir" things just rub me the wrong way, no matter how cool the car is. Can't help it.

Belair62 03-15-2005 06:22 PM

Re: Spring Vettefest - Pictures!

Strange..I'll have to post a pic of those M/T #1 wheels...can you post the pics you have of the Challengers ? They may hve re-named them. I think mine may be earlier than 65...the aluminum center is riveted to the outher steel chrome wheel and they are NOS. Sears actually sold wheels like this too...I have a couple in big Pontiac bolt pattern ! I would think Mickey had them first...Camarojoe...what do you have on these ?

Verne_Frantz 03-15-2005 07:14 PM

Re: Spring Vettefest - Pictures!

Yes, it's possible Sears did sell them. Mine are all rivited like that as well, which causes them to leak. You have to seal the rivit heads before mounting the tires. I also have a set of 5" circle. They were on a '64 Bonneville.
I'll try to get the ad scanned.

68l30 03-15-2005 08:26 PM

Re: Spring Vettefest - Pictures!

I know they were made in 1,2 & 3 rib designs early on.....Whatever was popular was commonly "stolen" and repopped even back in the day. M/T Radir,Rader,Fenton ect..All had a pretty similiar wheel.Different is good.I think it is refreshing to see a car without Cragers,Torq-Thrust,Rallys,XT's....Show us your Fly's, Spyders,Strippers,Slots...There used to be more wheel combos than cars... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif
