55 Chevy to be redone
This car has not been touched since pulling it out of the ditch. It still sits just like this.

Last one. It is interesting to note though that this 57 Chevy was run as a convertible. It set the track record at our 1/4 mile dirt track here in town in 1969. That record STILL stands today. The Late models and modifieds have not been able to beat it! This car won 7 track championships with the same driver! We had to cut down a very sizable tree to free it from its grave two summers ago! 57 'vert

Re: Backyard finds today

The other car that is finished (the #52) was WORSE than this one! As long as you are making dirt track cars out of them.....it isn't too hard. I know it isn't a restoration, but atleast they are being kept alive in some form! Otherwise they would have been crushed!

Phil

I absolutely love the track shot!!!! Reminds me of the Earnhardt movie I just saw with the old man running the 55, priceless.

I am bored so I have a few to contribute.

First this one was a suprise to me. This car is located on the corner of my parents block! I knew that the guy dug Mopars but never knew he had this car in the garage. I was driving past with my Chevelle and his kid was getting his bike out of the garage. I just about locked the brakes up when I saw this! I took a few pics. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Yeah, I'd have darn-near wrecked my car if I'd seen a blue 'bird peeking out of someone's garage! Love the colors--blue/black with white guts.

The car looks to have been restored in the past but is being neglected today. The car was FILTHY. The pics make it look better. The kid had to have been 10 years old and even voluntered to open the hood for me! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

The motor was worse looking than the outside and was caked with oil & grime. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Frank, get back there and make the kid an offer! Maybe some Pop-rocks and a Coke will do it!

Kid volunteered to open the hood?

I'm going to pre chew my kids out right now, and tell them to never open the garage for strangers.

This is one that I took near my previous house in Plainfield, IL. The guy has a $hit load of old signs and very cool stuff littered ALL OVER. I hear that he is a mean guy so I never dared to enter the property. Here are a couple of Mustangs that he had outside.

This is a cool one. I bought this car from it's 30 year owner in January 2003. The car was sitting in this garage on the North Side of Chicago untouched and unstarted for 20 years prior to me buying it. The car was ALL original and unmodified. I was going to keep it as a muscle car "beater" to drive to cruise nights and such until I realized that I could not get my leg under the stearing wheel! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif I bought the car for $3,900 and sold it on e-bay the next week for $11,100! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif I NEVER even sat in or started the car at all. The guy that I sold it to e-mailed me a week later and said that the car started right up after a tune up and after a cleaning he sold it for $15,000 to another guy a week after that!!

These pics were taken by me of the car "as found".

The car was very rare in the sense that it was a 351 Shaker Hood car.

Looks like a Ford Jubilee tractor maybe ?? Olered...the owner/driver was Larry Swiatek out of River Grove/Chicago...it was one of the first all glas GTO Funny Cars....Don Gay and Arnie had them too...but this one was radically alteredwwheelbase..it ran an injected 421 to start with...some of the pioneers of funny car building were involved with the building of it...TJS44 has probably heard of Swiatek...he ran a Swiss cheese Catalina. the former Pete Seaton car as the Gray Ghost early on...some cool pics in MCCarthy's book too..he also owned 1 of 3 SD Grand Prix's built in 63...390 H.P. 4 bbl SD car with steel front end according to Petes book.

Just found a couple more.

I also found this car in Plainfield, IL while I stopped at a yard sale at an old farm house. It had a couple of garages and one was half opened so I was able to see this. The owner was a mean looking biker that would have scared most who looked at him but was very happy to talk about the car. It is a 1970 Challenger R/T that the owner said that he got in about 1985. He said the car was originally yellow with a 4 speed before he repainted it, swapped the tranny, and replaced the motor. Next to the car he had the original 340 on an engine stand all rebuilt like 15 years ago that he never touched. There was also a rack of cool old Mopar wheels and tires. I thought I might have had a shot to buy the car but after some time he backed out and wanted to keep it. He actually refered to the car as a "collectors item". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

The Judge was a highly optioned original paint car. This is a 70 Boss 302 that was turned into a race car early on in its life. The driver's door fell off when I opened it due to rust!

Here is a 66 Malibu 6 cyl that got hit in the front and had a bent frame. I parted it out. Then someone else decided it was too nice to crush and made a race car out of it.
