Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
Charley,
Look here to find some info on SD TA's. http://www.angelfire.com/mi/jamos1/index.html Alot of it is reprinted from books I have. He shows the "webbing" on the block. That is only on SD blocks. |
Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
So Charley, in relation to the earlier question about TA A/C dash details, is your SD car equipped with factory or dealer-installed A/C? (It being a Seattle car, factory A/C isn't nearly as common here as other places.) Do you have PHS or original documentation for the options? Thanks.

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
I have the PHS Paperwork and it shows the Factory AC. I scanned it but it is too big to post.

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
Cool. I recall reading about a '73 SD Formula that had factory A/C as well. As I recall, he tried to order it with A/C and a 4-speed, but they wouldn't allow that combination. He opted to keep the A/C and get an automatic. (If I'm off-base here someone can correct me.)

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
Mine has two ac outlets at each end of dash and two at bottom of dash. The orig owner ordered a 4 spd no ac car but it didn't come till the salesman talked him into changing into a auto ac car. Then it came right away. Before that he had bought a 71 Trans anm and a 69 Trans am.

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
Good Call on that web link Bandit! That's the one I remember pouring over for couple of hours a couple of years ago. There's also a cool SD-455 engine article in a 73/74 issue of HP Cars magazine (If I remember correctly, the one w/ the "cartoon'y" reddish 73 GTO on the cover).
As for the 'Intern' thing, I think I could talk my advisor in the AET (Automotive Engineering Tech) dept. to allow me to get credit for it..sure beats the hell out of beta testing diagnostic scan tool software for OTC here in MN. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif |

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
Charley, what's the status of this car? Are you or anyone else restoring it?

I have the engine sitting here all rebuilt on the stand. The body is painted. Painted doors just showed up today. Painter just left with a bunch of little stuff that he just bead blasted. I am the part that is slowing it down. I need to get the engine and trans in but keep getting sidetracked. I love this car.

Re: Looking for 73 Trans Am Super Duty pics
Type in Ram Air restorations in any search engine should give you the web address.
Charley I just bought a 73 SD T/A in spring, it isn't finished yet, but its already going to be my favorite car. Handles Great, Drivers position very comfortable, Great interior and seats, and of course FAST as hell. I did not get to run this car at my local track, which just closed down, but I feel it might be as fast or faster than any of the other pure stock muscle cars I own or have owned. Its certainly going to be right up there. Even with factory AC! |

I think i have a photo that looks a little like that one,Mine wasnt as spiffy clean at the time though.I stripped my car down, but I replaced the quarter in the picture with a newer full 1/4 off a donor car.I leter finished stripping the paint on htat too.I didnt hang the full 1/4 though because I didnt want to do all the work inside my already perfect window beds.I plan on a V top for the car do it is no bigie anyway.BTW,what is the build date on your car.My car has a Vin sequence of 103.123,and was made in 11/d/72 and is a norwood car{ a plain old Esprit though},and I was wondering how fast GM was banging these cars out.I would love to have a real SD car.I raced a 73 camaro that I destroyed back in the day and I wanted to give back to the hobby by restoring a 70 396 SS camaro.I would like to have a 73 SD car along side my race car. That would be pretty cool.My car was red when I first built it,and a red SD T/A would be the icing on the cake.I cant wait to see it finished.
