Re: vettefest
Killer Show ! ! ! !
My favorite . . ., I just can't get into those Corvairs. Cool concept, but not enough cubes for me. I might have to pick one of the three Fathom Green Yankos (Jim Parks was restored with new quarters, low mileage and beautiful none the less) and that Garnet Red '69 Nova was nice, I have to say that the funny car of Tom's was a neat piece to admire, Holubs Hemi motor was nice, but I bet the Grumpy motor might give it a scare Matt Bergers Blue 427 conv. 2002 Hot Rod car was a great combination of color and performance . . . BUT, the best of show for me was Barnhardts Original '69 ZL1 (Porterfields a close second) I love the drag race versions. By the way, I brought a few of my own . . . See ya at the next show . . . Honorable mention goes to Charlies '67 Indy Pace Car, but when I worked at Dan Young Chevy in the early 80's I had it looking very clean, not to say Charlie didn't clean it that well, HAHA, The brakes always worked when I worked on it though . . . |

I really liked the 2002 White "Grumpy's Toy" ZL-1.
And it is the last of the run #69 Matt, What is a phase IV engine? and what kind of manifold was on that car? wow! |

Re: vettefest
Thanks for the picture guys! Does anyone have any pictures of the regular cars that were showed at the Vette Fest? I would like to bring my cars down next year but I would like to see some competition. I can pay for a cd, or maybe you guys could post some more pictures here. Thanks. Let me know.

Re: vettefest
There's a great article about the Sebring Corvette in this months Vintage Motorsport magazine.
Hard to pick a favorite car from the show, I'd have better luck coming up with the top five. One thing is for sure, I had never seen a '69 Yenko Nova before. |
Re: vettefest
Is it one of Yenko's Sebring Corvettes? I will check mag store today.
I have been doing a lot of research on Yenko's Corvettes and it has been fascinating as he had some great ones. Even turned up some parts to his race cars. They were being sold at Carlisle swap meet. My eyes popped out when I saw them unfortunately I didn't get them all and they are now scattered around who knows where. |
Re: vettefest
When I was talking to Lynn Yenko, I asked her what type of car Don used for his daily driver and her comment was strickly Corvettes! He never used one of the Super Cars as a daily driver.

Re: vettefest
Don was definitely a Corvette guy. There are many pictures of him with Corvettes from 1953 and up. He was a founding member of the local Corvette club and was very active. He often wrote articles and printed pictures from the races in the club newsletter. It was a family affair as Frank and Martha (parents) Hope (wife) and the kids went to the local races. Frank Yenko was also active in the club and SCCA and was a well known local race official. One of Don's first race wins was a SCCA sectioned drag race in 1956 in a Corvette - ran 16 sec flat. A Jag was second fastest.

Re: vettefest
I thought it was really cool seeing that many Yenko Deuces sparkling under the lights. My favorite was the Red Yenko Deuce. Coming in a very close 2nd was the Cranberry Red 427 Yenko Nova. You GOTTA LOVE that much power in that car. Naturally, I cannot post a picture of it because it is TOO BIG.

Re: vettefest
JoeC I met a fella that bought a car from the dealer that I used to work at and he said that he used to belong to the local Corvette Club with Don Yenko in PA where he lived. He said that it was an exclusive club and most members were very wealthy.

Re: vettefest
Frank do you know if Phil Chicarillo was in that club ?

Re: vettefest
Bob I was trying for like 10 minutes to remember his name (the guy I was refering to) before I made the original post but couldn't As far as any other members I wouldn't know.

Re: vettefest
A Phase IV 427 or what we called a SR427. It was our first attempt at building a solid roller 427 race engine. It required a lot of special parts internally and externally. Ext. it required new valve covers which were specially cut out of billet to handle the taller rockers and has ZL1#69 engraved in them, as was the intake that our engine shop and Wilson Manifolds worked together to make this one off custome intake for this motor. $5000 for the intake and $1000 for the valve covers. The custom throttle body hopefully will be here this week so we can test it for the final time. It is making 585HP to the rear wheels with a stock LS1 throttle body, that is just under 700HP to the flywheel. Grumpy himself was involved with this project and said that he was interested in driving the car when it is finished. He signed the car and a contract with GMMG on the car. What a great guy . . . Re: vettefest
Does anyone know why James did not make it with the Chevelle?
After seeing the car in the packet that Dennis gave out I was really sorry that he did not come to the show. |
Re: vettefest
I was wondering that myself? I bet you would like to do a little judging on that one Phil!

Re: vettefest
Assuming he was coming from Florida, it is a long trip. I understand the majority of his other supercars are stored in Tenn.
Perhaps he had tow vehicle trouble? |
Re: Vettefest
The Rims and tires on that Butternut Yenko Chevelle look perfect..great stance.
