Re: News from the Auction front.
ZL1 #51 having trouble meeting reserve went up to 275 but they said RJ wanted 330.
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
Who were the two guys bidding on #51?
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
I donĂt think Reggie is having any fun He was booed off the stage when he said that the
Reserve was at 330 |
Re: News from the Auction front.
This may sound crazy, but with $2000 steering wheels and $3000 distributors, next year this time the same ZL-1 will go to $375,000 and the reserve will be $425,000. I remember when everyone thought it was crazy and wouldnt go any higher when they were at $150,000. History repeats itself.

They must have skipped the Deuce, I didn't see it and I was waiting for it right after the Chevelle. Can't find it in the post sale lot either.

Re: News from the Auction front.
How about the LS6 Chevelles, have they sold? how much?
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
I walked through most of the cars today out in the field below the auction tent. The '67 Yenko Camaro has a no reserve sign on it. Future Classics has a White Chevelle L-78 that will be going across. Most of the LS-6 Chevelles that I saw were going through on Sunday. I do have some pictures that I will try to post tomorrow. I have a pic of the L-78 Chevelles build sheet. A nice unrestored Lemans Blue Z-28 went for $32 or so. I was surprised at the two GT-40s that went across and neither one broke $400K. If anyone is interested in the pics before I get them posted, send me an e-mail, and I will forward them on.

Re: News from the Auction front.
What about the "Elanor" 1967 Mustang GT 500 that went for I think $180,000!!
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
Reggie News--His '70 YENKO NOVA went for either $47,000 or $48,000 (the paint was bad and it had bucket seats). When he got BOO'D because of the ZL-1 reserve of $330,000 he said it didn't bother him because he's been boo'd before!! Gary Holub went up to him and asked him what his reserve was and when he said $330,000 Gary just walked away. Reggie was NOT too happy and he just didn't seem to care. More news the Boss 429 (The LAWMAN) would NOT START!!! It went for $120,000. Over at Russo-Steele Auction -- Ole RED ALERT was a No Sale-the bidding got up to either $80,000 or $90,000--when they drove it into the auction area poeple started Clapping it sounded great!! The (26 MILE) LS-6 was up to $245,000 and the owner Did Not Sale. Also at the end of Barrett-Jackson the '68 YENKO Camaro (blue) was RUSHED thru and the Auctioneer brought the hammer down at $98,000 and some people were still bidding on it and the Owner was Mad...Sorry can't remember some of the exact figures on a couple of the cars. Had a Great Time, now have to go back home to tempertures in the single degits--COLD!!! Mark

Re: News from the Auction front.
Reggie's YENKO Chevelle (white) got up to $125,000 and then all of a sudden it just seemed like the bidding stopped--his Reserve was $175,000!!!!! Mark
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
Mark, What was the reserve on that 26 mile LS6 chevelle? Just wondering because I got an unrestored black 69 RS/Z28 with very low miles!
Did the red 69 crossram Z28 @ Russo & Steele auction sell? |
Re: News from the Auction front.
Another question for Mark if he has time
You mentioned on an earlier thread about a 69 Chevelle SS, Blue, 325 HP sold for $50K on Friday. Man, that is big money. Did you by any chance get a look at that car? |
Re: News from the Auction front.
I just finished reading the list of 1969 camaros that have sold at the auction and what they sold for. I just saw a yellow crossram 4-wheel disc brake Z/28 sell for $32,000 a green COPO for $49,000 and some other Z/28s in the low to mid 20s. When you factor in the fees paid to sell these cars at this auction, does it look like the prices are leveling off?
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
Figures mean nothing if you don't see the cars or the paperwork. The prices you stated would indicate non documented cars that are most likely not "real", IMO, of course. Hopefully the folks that saw the cars will report.
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
Anyone have a chance to look at the gold 69 L-78 Rag that was there #755.It was supposed to be a unrestored car, black top and interior that sold for 97 and change. This was a local car in Cleveland that was sold last year or two for approx 39k.What a jump!Anybody else know the car?I find this hard to believe....From the photos I see from BJ,it has been touched up and detailed under the hood since I saw it last.......97,200

Re: News from the Auction front.
Soem of you guys must be looking at old auctions on the BJ web site. I was surprised to see the 67 Z28 with cowl plenum sell for only 31K. Was there something seriously wrong with that car, it sure looked great. Anyone see that car close up?
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
Don, Important the '69 Chevelle SS (blue) was a CONVERTIBLE and SOLD for $50,000. New restoration and Nicely Done.. Mark

Re: News from the Auction front.
Thanks very much Mark, that makes more sense.

Re: News from the Auction front.
92646..I think you were looking at old results, not this years. I think Reggies Deuce was mostly orig. paint that was presentable. There was a very nice Blue 68Z, not sure of the price. 67 Z looked decent, somebody probably got a deal. Reggies white Yenko Chevelle is a nice car. It is a older Tinnell resto with the white Cad plated bolts that Dwiggins always insisted on. The Olympic gold 69 L78 convert was a neat car that every time the current owner touched it he screwed something up. He bolted on a spoiler, he painted the subframe, he painted the rockers, looks like he clear coated the hood. Close examination of the orig. blacked out tail panel seems to confirm Gloss Black versus Semi. Red 69 Crossram Z28 at Russo and Steele sold for about 60K. The body seems to have been prepped wrong and the paint is cracking, shrinking etc. Pro Touring Dodge Charger with the Viper engine brought 105K. Boyds Aluma Truck only brought 80K, he must be very sick. There had to be a forune in that truck. My old Blue 68 Yenko brought 98K. I heard the Lamar Walden COPO sold for good money but I don't remember how much. There was something for everybody there. People paid stupid money and People got great deals.

Re: News from the Auction front.
Jeff,
The 67 Z is a nice driver and probably sold for what it was worth IMHO. Wagner's had the car 2 years ago and I was offered it for $30K - I thought it was worth about $28K at the time. They took it to BJ and got $35K for it. The new owner emailed me and wanted $45K about 6 months later! I guess he didn't get $45K, eh? The car has no docs, 10 foot paint with metalic clumping here and there, replaced quarters, some roof/door dents. Great car to hit the cruise nights with. |
Re: News from the Auction front.
Just returned home!! Too much fun! Great to see a bunch of you guys there. Flew home seated next to a German journalist who is doing a story for the German issue of Playboy on the auction, very interesting to get her perception. The truck I bought is really nice. He had it for 12 years, and completed it with all new chrome and stainless, 3" stainless Borla exhaust, new paint and interior, 383 stroker motor, factory air and tach. The fuel tank was replaced with a Blazer 30 gal tank under the bed. I figured that the $20k I paid would just about cover the resto costs if you had a free truck to start with!! It should arrive tomorrow. The white COPO at Russo Steele sold for $89k. The biggest surprise to me was the red '69 crossram Z that sold for $67k plus 8% buyers commission!! Also got a kick out of the guy that bought the Tony Stewart Winstoncup car for $89k!! So as I have stated in earlier posts "just because it is a REGGIE car is it really worth 25%+ more?" Re: News from the Auction front.
Wow! Sounds like the russo and steele auction had some big money buyers in the audiance. Good job on that little 69 red crossram Z car bringing $67,000.00. Even with a couple of paint flaws in the driver quarter. You just never know what the market is going to do. Great job to all you guys reporting from BJ. Thanks
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
I wasn't just talking about the cracks in the 1/4. There was shrinkage and activity in the paint just about everywhere on the car. I guess you could cut and rub it but it will still keep coming back.
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
OK I'm a dweeb. Everyone is right I was looking at old dates. I could not take the Speedvision show anymore so I went to web site instead. I got so excited by the prices that I did not look at all the details. But it could have been worse, I was going to the bank Monday to secure a credit line so I could go buy a supercar that I thought I could afford now.Its amazing I just missed the red crossram car when it sold on e-bay for $34,800 six months ago and now it sells for $67,000. At this rate I will never afford a neat car. To everybody sorry for the mistake.

Re: News from the Auction front.
Another very good time. Saw a lot of old friends, and some friends I'd only known online until now. I hung out with my family Saturday afternoon, and went back to the auction Saturday night. I saw the gold '69 Camaro L78 convertible go across for 90K and the white '70 Chevelle L78 convertible go for just under 100K. There was a bit of a frenzy going on, for even though the crowd had thinned, the bidding was hot and heavy. I watched in disbelief as a Plum Crazy '70 Coronet R/T Hemi/4sp w/18K orig went across the block for--$155K--and it was a hardtop, not a convertible!
My take on some of the cars: '69 L78 Convert-Charley is dead on-a nice car that has been kind of buggered by a well intentioned but clueless owner. '67 Z28 - Seemed like a deal, but when you look at it close, the C-pillars are both showing evidence of the 1/4 panel grafts, and there are some other paint hiccups if you look. Seemed like a good deal, but if you're picky, you're going to paint it again. No documentation displayed. Nicer '69 Pace Car Convert- Looked like an exceptionally done car, but the COLUMN SHIFTER/NO CONSOLE deal sort of limited its appeal to me, and some bidders, I'm sure. I bet a 396/4sp car in this shape would have done HUGE money. Orange '69 Z28- Black stripes but no vinyl top? Stripes painted under the spoiler, and I don't think it had any cowl induction guts. This was JUST A CAR, $40K was too much. $25K should have been the number. Friday's Russo and Steele started with a whisper, but the bidding grew as the night progressed. In some ways impressive, but obviously still in need of development. The haphazard parking, and small tent were limiting. If I had a killer high-end car, I think BJ is still the ticket for maximum return. I brought the family this year, and balanced car stuff with family outings. Scottsdale has some great zoos and awesome, huge family parks. As a result, I didn't get burned out on auction stuff, and probably had my best time since I started going almost 10 years ago. Some things you can count on - Jim (NWYENKO) went to Arizona and came back with a new car/(truck). He's 3 for 3 now, I think.......(Good to see you and LaDonna, Jim, as always ) |
Re: News from the Auction front.
I did a freeze frame on the engine on the Yenko Chevelle. It could use some underhood detail work. The hood hinges and PB booster look bright silver in color, alt fan looks black and neg bat cable was bolted to alt bracket which I think is incorrect for this car. These are minor fixes but that big ole cowl induction setup may take some work to remove. The cowl induction requires a big slot or big holes cut in the firewall. The firewall would need welding/painting maybe need to remove heater box, fender, wheelwell to do the job right. The white black color combo with Yenko stripe looked nice on TV.

Re: News from the Auction front.
I would leave the Air cleaner on because it is a neat piece but remove the emblem from it.
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
Could anybody tell us what were the prices paid for the LS6 Chevelles, wasn't there also some L-72 Biscayne at B.J. How Much did it sell for?
|
Re: News from the Auction front.
They didn't spend much time on the Yenko Chevelle...I was kind of hoping they would throw a small "plug" for the club in since we had some original paperwork on the car. How come they ran it off so soon?
Cutting to commercial right before the Deuce rolled across was a nice touch... |
