----Wow congrats, Charley! Very cool. The car as well as you deserve the press as the car is unbelievably cool.......Bill S

First time I saw that link. Too bad they don't post that Sled Ally built the car. Reads like Roadster shop did it.

tom406 06-27-2019 02:59 AM

They must have amended it-several references to Sled Alley as builder when I just read it.

Charley Lillard 06-27-2019 01:10 PM

Yes they amended it but it still reads like Roadster shop was also the builder. I told him the Roadster Shop sold me a chassis but never saw the car until after it was finished. "But after seeing what Roadster Shop accomplished with Charley Lillard’s 1965, well, my preferences may have been adjusted accordingly."

As my user name implies, I prefer an old automobile to look as close as possible to when it came off the assembly line.

BUT, this modified 65 Riviera is an exception.

Charlie, that is one bad ass car you have!

From the long front clip with Buick’s futuristic clamshell headlamps, the beautiful styled wheel openings at all corners lowered and stuffed with an awesome wheel selection. I’m hooked.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been drawn to the 60s cars back when they were new with their unique style. They still flip that switch when they are tastefully done as your car.

The cherry on top for me, is you preserved the Factory Paint.
From 20 feet I’m sure it looks fresh, but soon you detect the patina in that Arctic White from 54 years ago. I’m so glad this is the choice you made.

Thanks for sharing such a Cool Ride !

Chris.

A couple more rides from the 60s.

1965 Lamborghini 350 GT.
1965 Riva Aquarama, the King of all wooden boats.

It would be cool to see your 65 Riviera pulling a 65 Riva.

Man.... everything screams "class" on this. Breathtaking, all of it!

Cheers

So after several years and 13K fun miles I felt the Riviera earned a paint job. Charley Hutton shot the paint .

dykstra 05-08-2024 10:53 AM

I love this car! So flipping cool!!

Daverde 05-17-2024 01:12 PM

All I can say is Wow!!!

Love this body style Riv.

I am just curious. Seems like they would shoot white primer under white paint.

I had my BMW 745i shot back in 2004. Black car and they used white primer. That means when I get a stone chip the white primer shows through.

Is there a reason to use black primer under white paint and vice versa?

Charley Lillard 05-18-2024 11:54 AM

I think he sanded all that black off. I just know Charley Hutton is really well respected world wide. PPG even flies him around the world giving seminars.

Lynn 05-18-2024 02:44 PM

I am not doubting the quality of the work done. I don't doubt the quality of the paint job on my bimmer; just don't know why they used white primer under black paint. The owner if the shop is a friend of mine, so I can just ask him. Will probably have them shoot my LT-1 body.

Have seen a lot of high quality jobs where they shoot black epoxy primer, follow that with a poly high build primer so that it can be sanded perfectly smooth before final coat.

I know the PPG epoxy primer can be had in both black and white.

Again, just curious.

That dude needs a belt before his shorts fall off and the rest of us go blind.

Hutton was wondering how long before Buttcrack got noticed.

Are you having some new work done? Or are these older pics of the progress? I think I missed something. Not unusual.

Charley Lillard 06-29-2024 03:52 PM

Paint

Lynn 06-29-2024 04:30 PM

I get it. Did not see the date on the paint photos. Thought I was looking at some older ones.

Charley Lillard 07-10-2024 02:53 PM

I told him resale red but he went with white anyway.

Lynn 07-10-2024 04:32 PM

Classy look. I know some guys HATE white cars, maybe because it is the most common color of car / truck in the U.S. Still looks classy.

Headlight bezels and bumper on. Clear bra going on. Hot August Nights Reno and then Good-Guys road tour. Luckily the Road tour ends right by Hutton's shop so he can fix all my screwups.
