This is my old truck. Has held up very well for rust. Cab corners a d rockers still appear fine. I'm putting it up for sale for for $7k.

I found a similar GMC with 23k on it and the guy was asking $18k.

I chose to update to an 18 leftover. Honestly the saftey items and conveniences of the phone interface really swayed me. Yeah the guy running down the road with these big tanks said saftey.

I went to the Seattle Auto Show this past Friday and saw both the 2019 Silverado 1500 and the GMC 1500. I don't mind the Chevy as it is in my opinion better looking in person than it is the ads I had seen, but I will say that the 2019 GMC is a much better looking truck than the Chevy. They really did a nice job with the front end on the GMC.

I look forward to seeing what the HD's look like when they come out in 2020. I bought a 2017 GMC Denali HD 3500 with Duramax a year and a half ago and have racked up 44,000 miles so far. Tows my car and boat trailers like nothing at all. Absolutely love the new 445hp Duramax and its my third Duramax since 2006.

I wasnt impressed with the '16-18 Chevy front ends, but when I seen the 19's and GM unleashed some descent rebates on '18 LTZs I snatched up a 6.2 as fast as I could. I like some of the gadgets on the new ones but the prices are getting out of hand.

BTW made my wife giggle crossing a 5 lane street last weekend, the 6.2 isn't lacking of any power. I felt like Charley.

nay here, I guess im just an old man thats not a fan of the murdered out black wheels and trim, Give me some CHROME!!!!!!

Spooky 11-14-2018 11:49 PM

I bought a loaded 2016 2500hd LT gasser to replace my rusting 7.3 f350. This gasser does not lack power, super quiet and is getting me an average of 14.6 mpg with the 6.0. Maybe I drive it like a grandpa. I would like to trade in every 4 years from now on instead of dealing with rust issues again. I hope the 2020 HD's look better than the 1500's

I don't like the murdered out look either

I'm an old timer with my '95 K2500 diesel 8600 GVW 'Burb that I bought new back in the day. Last year I replaced the original 6.5 with a modern AM/Gen 6.5 from the HUMVEE upfit line in Ohio. Runs 18 to 1 compression instead of 23 to 1, so you can use more boost reliably. (I only run about 12 psi). Best mileage so far is 19.5 mpg highway. Gets around 10 mpg towing my 24 foot trailer with a car inside. I love this old truck. I even had my own decals made up to resemble the factory "6.5 Diesel Turbo".

The main problem with the 6.5's is that you have to become your own expert on them There aren't many mechanics still around who know how to diagnose issues without just throwing parts at them (i.e. injection pumps). There's some great websites out there for fans of these old crates. People see this body style more and more as collector items now, than actual work trucks.

I paid 38K for it 23 years ago. It's been paid off for 22 years. :-)

Just thought I'd ramble a bit.

I drove through the dealer lot the other day and saw some new Suburbans with $90,000+ window stickers. HOLY CRAP!!!! That's just insane.

I had been content with my 8.1 for a long time. Honestly, even up to the LBZ Duramax- there wasn't enough gain to want to deal with a diesel.

A few if the guys on here have been helping me reconsider that position. Now that the emissions seems to be sorted and the power is at an all time high, the L5P was just too good not to upgrade to. It really is on a whole nother level!

I’m not a fan of the front end of the new Chevrolet trucks but they’re growing on me. I DO like the new GMC trucks a lot better this year.

I had a 2006 crew cab Silverado with the 5.3/4-speed auto. I loved that truck. I traded it in for a new 2015 crew cab 5.3/6-speed.....I couldn’t believe the difference in power and ride. I also love how nice and quiet it is driving down the road.

My problem is.....I have a 24’ enclosed trailer and the 5.3 did very well but I had no idea that at the time I purchased the truck that you could also get a 6.2 in a half ton. As we all now....bigger is always better so I was on the hunt for a 6.2.

I found a very clean, low miles, used 2016 6.2/8-speed with the Max Trailering Package......I absolutely love this truck. It hauls my trailer very well. The damn thing got second gear scratch one time when I left a stop sign once! I’d put it up against any other brand without hesitation.

The Max Trailering Package is the ticket....you get 3.42 gears vs 3.23 with a larger ring gear, heavy duty radiator, re-dampened rear shocks and springs and big tow mirrors.

I got 24.5 mpg going 72 mph one day on a 50 mile trip. My wife drove 60 mph for 30 miles and got 28.5......I know these were ideal conditions but there is no way I’d ever get that with my ‘06.

The only change I’ve made is I installed an AFE Momentum GT air box which is dyno proven for 12hp and 15 ft/lbs torque.

That's much nicer, and that new tailgate design is genius.

How do you like it? What motor?

jasonL78 05-01-2020 11:48 AM

Ok I read all the posts and really saw opinions. I have had a couple Chevrolet crew cabs over the years and my best was my 2011. Not one issue! I traded it in with 120K when I bought my 2014 crew cab. The 2014 wasn't a bad truck way more bells and whistles then I needed, but over all it was a good truck. It had its little issue a couple recalls, door lock, bakes, and oh the roof leak that filled my cup holders up with water. A really bad design on the shark fin on the roof. A long story lots of frustration there.

I traded the 2014 in on a 2019 in September and again way more truck than I needed. With 900 miles the check engine light comes on. I was a little pissed. I read the code myself with my scanner. Nice, has to do with the active fuel management with the number 5 cylinder detecting an open circuit? It seems to be running fine. I reset it to see if it was a fluke. Well it wasn't, a week later it came back on. I called the dealer and they have a three week back log as they were addressing the brake recall on the previous model year trucks. Lovely! I finally get in and I get the dreaded call. We can't find anything wrong, we are just going to reset it and if it comes back on we will most likely have to pull the motor. I was like pull the motor really! I was not a happy camper. I called GM customer service and filled a claim Immediately. Needless to say the light came on again about a week later. When I brought it back in I told the service writer you call me before you put each part into that truck. They replaced the engine ECU didn't fix the problem, they replaced the #5 solenoid for the active fuel management even though it tested fine. That required them to pull off the intake off and now when you start the truck the check engine comes on right away with the same code. Hmm one would say did we disturb something? They pulled the intake back off to inspect and found the main wiring harness for the active fuel management system cut and had a couple of smashed wires? I get the call we have found the problem! We will have a wiring harness here in 5 days. A couple days later not 5 I get a call come pick your truck up its all fixed. Come to find out they didn't replace the harness they repaired it. Shame on me for not reading the write up when I picked up the truck. I read it when I got home and yes I did call the dealer and give them a ear full. I was more concerned with how everything was put back together under the hood. Just the aggravation of dealing with these types of problems is what irks me from wanting to buy any new vehicle.

I have a couple of issues I don't like. The windshield wiper/ directional switch lever is to short and you have to reach behind the steering wheel to activate your windshield fluid button. Its so out of place its funny. Oh the recall on the brake pad life indicator. Truck had 1100 miles and the dash said the brake pad life was at 55%. I asked how is GM calculating this? Are the calipers motor driven with feedback now? Nope its just an average over time. I just chuckled and said, GM realizes everyone drives different and stops different tows things of different weights and so on. Then I asked I work on my truck how do I reset the indicator. His reply, oh well you need to bring it back to us for that. Ya OK! Just think of how many consumers are going to be taken for a brake job in the near future.

I just want a truck I can plow with, tow with, that is built to be used as a truck. They all have there issues GM, Form Dodge Toyota. Its really just the luck of the draw.

Do I like the truck. Overall yes. To me its just a truck and trust me I use it as a truck. All manufactures have there own issues. It all comes down to what issues you want to deal with.

Your story reminds me of my 15 HD 2500 Denali. Head Gasket ( duramax)went took 3 visits to dealer each time me telling them it is eating coolant to say it’s an HG! Duh! I am very meticulous about my stuff and the idea that a 70k truck needed this done was frightening as I don’t trust folks working on my stuff. The most concerning was they take the entire cab off to fix it! I asked the service manager to replace both sides while it was apart as I don’t want to come back. He said GM won’t pay them to do that but if it went bad they would fix it... well that makes sense:bs: Anyway 30 days later I get truck back and sold it. Btw it had 50k on it.
I switched to a different brand and have had ZERO issues!!
