Jeff - of course you have heard of YENKO installing HTs on their '70 Deuces.

Yes, but I'd be pretty optimistic to assume this is a Yenko car. I'm looking for some stories about lesser known dealerships adding a Delco hood tach (I think the Yenkos had the aftermarket Dixcos). Mine was definitely a 1967 Delco unit. The Delco harness is still in the car and the hole in the hood is for the 1967 unit, not the later 1968 and up unit. |

Re: 1967 SS 427 Impala Real Z24 4 speed
I have a interesting 72 Chevelle GM Dealer Video. Part way thru, it shows a line up of past years Chevelles and the depreciation rates. Interestingly enough the 69 Malibu has a hood tach....These must have been from GM pics they had on file ??

Re: 1967 SS 427 Impala Real Z24 4 speed
Thanks Pete...I still can't figure it out.Jeff if you decide to bid on this tach I can highly recommend the seller.I've dealt with him and he sells quality parts and his service is top notch.

Re: 1967 SS 427 Impala Real Z24 4 speed
Thanks, guys. I am already watching that tach, as well as a few others, on eBay. However, it is definitely not the tach that was on my car. The NOS one on eBay is the later short version with the dual lamps. The hole for that one is about 3.75 inches with 2 mounting holes and a rivet. The hole in my hood is about 3.0 inches with four mounting holes (early tall tach). Very cool though. The AC logo makes it a great fit for a "day-two" Chevy item as opposed to the Pontiac or Buick labeled ones. I won't be bidding on it, so if anyone wants it...... It would also make a great display item for you "new in the box" accessory hounds.

Re: 1967 SS 427 Impala Real Z24 4 speed
This is a picture of a "Chevy-ized" version of the early 1967 hood tach that is on the Bill Mitchell Cherokee Camaro styling exercise car. This is the style that was on my car.

If you want a real one just buy the November 29, 1966 issue of Look magazine. Plenty of them on eBay. That ad is the centerfold.

Re: 1967 SS 427 Impala Real Z24 4 speed
I finally grabbed my ankles and shelled out the 350 per tire for the Goodyear G70x15 Redlines that came originally on this car. I know they're not as smooth and don't handle as well as radials, but I can't do without the sharp look of the bias plys. The ribbed profile just outside the redline circumference also adds character to the look on these old tires. The Coker Firestone G70-15 redlines are 250 per tire, but I like the Goodyear better. The disc brake option on this car bumps the standard wheel diameter from 14" to 15" disc wheels. The Z24 option bumps the wheel width from 5" to 6" (F41 did so redundantly on this one) and demands red stripe tires unless you opt for white stripes.

Re: 1967 SS 427 Impala Real Z24 4 speed
Sweet car Jeff. My Grandfather bought a '67 SS new but was just a 327-275 powerglide. Capri Cream I believe it was called. Seemed like the fasted car on the road when you're just a kid. Always loved the look of the '67's.

That weird feeling when your buddy is looking through an old book and finds your car. Pic is obviously from the Paul Zazarine Car Review shoot.
