Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Sounds good Helmut.
Just would be intereseting if it was cast the same day as mine, which is: A 30 9 https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...3-2940-031.jpg |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Helmut,
Have Mike take a picture of your casting date Dan |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
If Mike is taking pictures, maybe a few extra would be well recived here on sYc. We love pics.
I have special affinity for pics of real L89's. Bench seat 4 gear L89,69 Chevelle, wow that thing could be pink with a purple pokadot interior and I would still love it. IMHO, well worth a thread/post all of it's own. Ryan |

Rick,
Those rims with the dog dish hub caps with some red line tires would also look incredible on the black L78. I love the look of the steel wheels with the dog dish hub caps. Mike |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Nice car.
Is it going to be a SS 396 clone at some point? Ryan |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I remember that car street racing in the late 80's.
That hood is one of a kind. I dont have any storys to tell abou it. |

What details do you look for in these cars when determining the real deal? Here's an example on an L78 version....no paperwork and non matching #s motor...........

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Rick,
I was born and raised on the street racing scene in Detroit and I have never seen this car before. I did have a pretty extensive conversation with the kid u bought it from and ha said that it was indeed raced on the streets of Detroit. I do have a few Freinds that live in Detroit that all the know is street racing I will print a copy of your car and go knocking on some doors. Maybe I can spoke up a skunk or two. Mike |

Helmut, The pics make the body look better than it actually is. It has been repainted at sometime and had rust repair before also. |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I guess its the patina that caught my eye. That car will get a lot of attention with a bigger mill under the hood.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I think that is more than enough, I have free storage options for special 69 Chevelles. (Need keys to start monthly for lubrication......)
Ryan What a Great Collection. (You have great taste) |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Garnet Red is a great color on a 69 Chevelle.
In the late 80's I paid 2k for a 69 SS 396 4spd faded white with a black vroof motor apart in the trunk and the muncie hung with a piece of baling wire from the firewall. Didn't think anything about checking to figure the original color (I could have cared less as I would paint them whatever color I wanted back then) When I looked up the cowl tag numbers I learned it was originally Garnet Red... I thought who would ever paint a factory Garnet Red car white? I painted it Garnet with the black roof and black bench, it was beautiful! I wish I could have them all back! |

Ryan What a Great Collection. (You have great taste) </div></div> Of course, keys to be left strictly to help lubrication.........wink, wink...nod, nod Gotta love them `69's! |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Best way to keep them lubricated is short bursts of approx 1320 feet at max rpm.
Ryan I have my 1969 Chevelle Babysitters Certificate. I am however having a hard time getting you any positive references, my grandmother is still mad at me for driving her car "like a crazy baffoon". (when I was about 16.5 years old mind you.) |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I've been asking about my car over at Yellowbullet.com, and have had a couple guys remember the car.
Here's one response. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I need to ask a couple of questions.............. 1.) Does the roll bar only have the hoop, rear bars and one door bar ? 2.) The rear suspension, does it have the upper and lower control arms removed and the old style Lakewood ladder bars welded in place ? The reason I ask is there were a couple of Good Ole boys that brought us a 1969 Chevelle back in the mid nineties and we built them a 540, for the life of me can't remember the guys name, but his brother was in a wheelchair with a bullet lodged in his spine. They street raced this thing down by the Detroit City Airport area. This car ran mid to low nines which scared the hell out of me the way it was put together. They came up to our shop to build the motor so no one downtown knew anything about the motor. The car looks familiar. Jim </div></div> Here's another <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Originally Posted by 540chief Back in the early to mid 90's a guy named Tim Mitchell had a car that looked alot like this one.. The owner was good friends with my father. Everyone call him Cowboy. (the name on the window). If I remember correctly this car was a stick car also, or it was when it was raced through the early 80's. Its seen some street action in the late 70's, but mostly track after that. Cowboy passed away a few years ago, great person. Known him sense I was 8 years old, I'm 45 now. Hope this helps. Enjoy! </div></div> |
