Such Sad News.
I only met Pete briefly a couple times, but feel I knew him in a way as many have indicated through websites, magazine articles, TV, etc. We send our thoughts, prayers and condolences to all Pete's family and friends. He will be sorely missed. I can offer a thought: My best friend died at the age of 25 due to heart failure, I had been honored to read scripture at his wedding just four months previous. Almost immediately I decided to always keep my thoughts steered toward all the great things we had done together or to the positives. It was very helpful for me as my friend John Egli of New Hamburg Ontario was one of the great ones as well. Peter was laid to rest yesterday. There was an incredible outpouring of love and support for his family. Funeral service was befitting the extrordinary gentleman that Peter was. Over 500 people in attendance and hour long lineups the night before to pay respects. We celebrated his life last night with Vicky, the boys and the rest of Peter's family right in his shop. His spirit will live on forever amongst us.

Oh my God.........I hav not been here in a week or so and just saw this thread. I am at a loss for words. I am very sorry to hear of Pete's passing. I was just watching the COPO episode of American Muscle Car with my father where Pete is showed racing, and we were just talking about him. God speed Pete. You got em' all licked in that big drag strip in the sky. The were probably saying, "Oh no.....here comes COPO Pete!"

Strange how you can still smile with tears in your eyes.
I'm so glad I got to spend some time with Peter, Vicky, Owen & Eric. But knowing what a good man he was just makes it hurt even more. I hope to see you again someday Peter. Godspeed Sir. |

I first met Peter at one of the SuperCar Reunions a few years back. You could tell he was a just one of the guys, loved his family and cars and would help anyone he could. My wife and I had the chance to take Peter and his wife to lunch when they visited Hawaii. Of course it was all bench racing at the table but it was something we both enjoyed. Took him by a few cars I knew of I thought he would like to check out. nice 2 hours spent talking with a great guy, RIP Peter

Are you kidding Tom? Anyone that takes the time to write a tribute like that and post it in a national car magazine and in his words deserves credit for well done regardless of it's content. Yours happens to be an excellent tribute. |

Sometimes I stop what I'm doing and recall something he said that made me bust a gut like............ One morning at a Martin,Mi race, I made a couple of passes and told him how frustrated I was by the lack of traction I was experiencing. He looks at his car and then looks me in the eyes with a straight face and says.."I'm not to worried about that...my car hooks on wet grass"
........and sometimes I miss his phone calls and have a good cry. Tom Shaw's tribute was absolutely beautiful! Thanks Tom |
