Re: Vintage drag photos
I drive across Pennfield Ridge half a dozen times every summer on the way up to PEI. Always look at that strip where they dry Sea kelp today and think "what a wicked drag strip that would have been"! Wished I'd been there back in the day but, then, I never would have gotten any further North (PE).
Great shots!! Rick |
Re: Vintage drag photos
Do you live in Manchester Rick? I get down to NH 3 or 4 times a year, my brother lives in Fremont, and has a 68 SS396 Camaro, as well as a 69 Malibu that he runs at Epping. (Are you going to the New England Nationals this year?)
And now for a couple of more shots: https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...05428010_n.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...21358609_n.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/use...37799608_n.jpg |

Re: Vintage drag photos
Recently found this picture, after talking to some guys from home that confirmed it to be one of the 10 or so Ewing Chevrolet 69 COPO Camaro's form Canton Ohio. You can just make out "Ewing" on the quarter panel. "Mohler and Moor" on the door.

Re: Vintage drag photos
My friend's pro stocker from the mid 70's. This was an original COPO car.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/Bornfree.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...391/spino4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...391/spino5.jpg His A and B/MP record holding 67 Camaro. He ran it using the engines from the pro stocker. It is an original L-78 RS with under 20K miles on it. He still owns it today. He had it backhalfed in the late 70's but it has every bit of the born with sheet metal and interior except the hood is set aside with a hood scoop grafted to it. It still has the paint from back then on it,and it shines like new. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...391/spino1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...391/spino2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...391/spino3.jpg Now. He has an LS-6 crate motor and th400 in it and he set the Super Tricks and slicks aside so he can drive it to cruise nights. Unfortunatly health issues including being nearly blind, prevent him from driving it,so his on drives him around in it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...oescamaro2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...oescamaro1.jpg |

The interior Grump's 70 right after he sold it to Richie Zul
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...zulcamaro1.jpg I will sneak this one in here. ME! In about 1991 when I was about 19. In my 73 CCCamaro at E-town. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...owerslave3.jpg As you can guess,I am a fanatic for 2nd gen Camaro Pro Stockers. O.K.,this is my retro looking race car. I guess it is kinda what it would have looked like if somebody built a Firebird to run Pro Stock or M/P in 1970. I packs a real 427 Chevy with a real 1969 GM flat tappet cam in it,and L-88 replacement heads. I photochopped over the 10.66 dial in with a 13.66 just to mess with my grudge racing buddies. The pic looks like it could be vintage, but it was 2009 E-town. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/raceway2.jpg |

Here is a local Cleveland area car that raced 42/Norwalk back in the day. Borrowed the picture from my cousin's Husband.. I think his Dad or Uncle owned the car....

Re: Vintage drag photos
Hi Barry,
No I don't live in "ManchVegas" but instead a very small town east of there called New Durham. I'm an hour Northeast of New England Dragway where I race when the urge strikes me and yes I'll be there for the NHRA Nationals if I'm not on PEI. Maybe we can hook up! Rick |

Re: Vintage drag photos
Original ZL-1 Camaro. Looks like it was an original red (Hugger Orange?) car w/red interior. Rare color combo I'd say. Or was it a white Camaro w/red interior?

Yeah, me too. The name on race cars from that era were really creative and cool--unlike today. |
