Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Still on the stand, but ever closer. Hopefully mounting the trans and going back in the car Sunday.
Old valve covers on just for mock up purposes and to avoid oil leakage. http://blueicehouse.com/n5ssi/555Project29.jpg |
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Sorry for phone pic. Engine and trans went in today.
Slowly but surely. http://blueicehouse.com/n5ssi/555Project30.jpg |

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Lookin' Good Man! Nice and sorted out underneath and that switch panel looks like business.
|
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
It is getting there. Spent all of tonight working on wiring and cleaning up previous "birds nest" wiring.
Got the panel all wired up, tested everything and all is working. Having to make custom aluminum panels for the cowl to mount my gauges outboard like the red one was. Turned motor over just checking the starter. Sounded good, no shims needed. Looks like tomorrow we will get the carb on and fire it up. I was busy enough today that I didn't take any pics. |

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Oh I am my friend. I am. Got around 150 miles on it now.
A Highway Patrol buddy scared the crap out of me, pulling up along side me on the Interstate yesterday. When I looked over and saw him flying a thumbs up and mouthing "that is bad F'ing a$$" I was greatly relieved. Of course we had to pull over and chat for a bit. He loved it, I roared off from the side of the road when we left, him and his rider were videoing and taking pics, other traffic was freaking out. It was comical. We reset the valves/lifters yesterday, re-tightened all bolts accessible, and checked voltages to the rear batteries. All is good. I love it. It took me 51 years to get the car I wanted, and I am loving it. Can't wait until I can get a set of rims/slicks, and take it down the track. It should do low 10's. |
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
You are "loving it" so is all of us. Have fun driving it.

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Break in oil changed. Rings seated.
2 step chips changed. Need better rear tires. Has new 33x19.5 MT's but they are the old school treaded ones you would see on a T-bucket or something. Just burns em off. Looking at new Hoosier street tires i found. Anyone run them yet? https://www.hoosiertire.com/strttire.htm |

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Nice vid and love the touch with the mailbox!
|
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Thanks Paul. Obviously no traction on the street. Was just playing around on the first nice day in a while,
after just replacing the radiator. Was really hoping to get it to the track this year, and there is a street meet this weekend, but track temps have cooled significantly. We still have some warm nice days left, but the ground has gotten cold until Spring. SO I will probably not rush it and just wait until then. I hope to get some GoPro video up soon, as opposed to the crappy phone vid. |
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Nice!!

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Thank you sir.

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Here is copy of an article from the Austin newspaper a couple weeks ago.
My buddys rat is in front, then my Nova, a buddys 65 El Camino, and so on. This is the drive in we meet at monthly, and was in the Dazed and Confused movie. My Texas Thunder group is the last mention at the end of the story, yet the picture they use. http://blueicehouse.com/n5ssi/TNnewspaper.jpg |
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
7.20 on street tires, pump gas, foot brake. Not bad for an unplanned run.
I guess 0-100 in 7 seconds isn't too shabby for street dress. Should be able to squeeze out 6.80's or better easily. Oh, and this is with full exhaust. You can also hear the tires spinning half way down the track. The last run was the 7.20, watch on youtube full screen! Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
For sure. Turn out is light for Winter wimps, but the next one is on Valentines Day, 2/14 5-10PM

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
We are also in Georgetown every Saturday possible, Next to The Pit BBQ on Williams, about a mile West of 35. 5-9 now.
Normally 6-10 when it's warm. |
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
That beauty is glowing!

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
I like the 60' time, same as my son's Jr Dragster! So....that's what his Jr feels like, he's a lucky kid!!
|
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
LOL, yeah, I had a buddy here tell me the same thing. His kid ran a JR rail and had similar times.
That's amazing, and kind of defeating at the same time. My reaction times were terrible. But my only defense is street tires, foot brake, etc. Slicks are coming and hoping early March will be warm enough to return, on trailer, with race fuel, etc. |

Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Found an 8" rock in the middle of the interstate. Going on the lift tonight. @#$%!!!
4-5" of clearance vs 8" rock = bad news. Shredded the oil pan. Car went airborn when it hit it. It was not pretty. http://blueicehouse.com/n5ssi/Oilpan3.jpg |
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Hope things are okay with minimal repair.
|
Re: Mayhems 71 Nova
Geezz -- hope everything internally is OK ...
