Exactly, price is not important at all to anyone else but the owner. I am a buyer of these vintage racecars with history and would guesstimate could fetch anywhere from $50k to $100k today.

I'm guessing that anybody who REALLY wants to know can call the auction company and find out what was the winning bid. I also know that as previously observed, it's not of any importance to anyone but Dave. I started this thread for Dave at his request, and there should be no doubt that this car is a keeper. When he is done going through the drivetrain, and fluffing up the exterior, this car will be seeing some track time for the first time since 1974.

Like I said, since it was a public auction and not a private sale, I didn't think it was going to be a big deal. Apparently, I was wrong. I don't understand why the owner doesn't just say I paid XXXXXX amount of dollars for it and put it to rest. Eventually, somebody is going to post the figure, I am just curious as are most others. Sorry for asking.

If Dave wanted to announce the price he would have but since he wants to keep it to himself please give him the courtesy and drop the subject. The price was a fair market value for a COPO missing the original engine/trans and the family of the late owner did well with the sell. Mark

That car was a steal at 50k. Wish I could have made it to the auction. Had to work that weekend. My good friend was there and said there was alot of old things at auction. Great find hope to see it in person again.

A friend of mine has a 70 L78 Nova that was an old drag car. His Uncle is actually the original owner of the car and I personally know and have talked to him many times. Anyhow, he told me that he actually cut a hole in the firewall as to reach the distributor when he was seated in the car to play around with the timing just before going down the track. I have seen this on the car also..
From the pictures it looked like there is a hole for that... Maybe it is just for the tach cable.. Thought there was some contraption set up to adjust the distributor from inside the car... Next time I see my friend's L78 I'll have to get pictures and post them of the firewall area. He covered the hole the best he could but you can still see where the hole was cut.. I have photos of the car and engine compartment but not close ups of the firewall area.. Rich |

Great photos, thanks for posting. I haven't seen that style axle-retaining devices in a very LONG time! Quite primitive, but effective nonetheless! What a great car. Looks like the trunk was full of stuff, any great finds inside there? I've always been a big fan of the Holley Dominator/Edelbrock C454 manifold. That's a great induction set-up and was VERY effective for many years. Still is.

That first picture before the paint change looks like it was at old Dragway 42... The other picture with the original paint and Cragars looks familiar also but I can't place it..
