Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson

did any one @ BJ take a good look @ the 1993 camaro zl1? [/ QUOTE ] Spent a good amount of time around the car. It was a 572 powered 5 speed Tremek car. Converted to the modern front end from 98-02. It went for $140k (ish) and sounded brute nasty. Went to a collection of about 8 ish cars bought here at Barrett. I thought a very nice buy was $60k for a '69 z28 26k original miles, every stitch of paper, original motor/owner car. fathom/green/white stripe. Did not look like originla paint but for a Z with original tires, I was impressed with the car! small block '67 Corvettes brought very strong money. My friend's '67 300hp Auto, blue/blue convert with pb, ps, a/c, etc brought $90k, a Bloomington Gold '67 Vette 300hp black/red auto brought $70k and a '67 convert red/white L79/M21 brought $100k with no awards. Very, very nice paperwork however! All in all there were some quality cars but like every other BJ there were may fakes, restamps, wrong tags ect. There is a '66 390 black/red a/c Vette for sale in the BJ tent (not an auction car) with fake tags- [horrible rivets] with a restamp motor and a one piece nose is for sale at $125,000. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif Prices seem educated however there were a few cars that we couldn't believe sold at prices. Like the GM Monte Carlos that brought the upwards of $50k a piece. GM did have some nice buys like a '08 Yukon XL with 10 miles on it for $20k. Brand new, not a scrap title. All in all, nothing beats this show. It is a site to see. |

Quick word of warning. There's a black '61 Impala going through today, LOT# 1231. The car started life as a 283, Powerglide, not an SS. Verne [/ QUOTE ] Exactly, Far to many fake cars/paperwork going thru this comical BJ auction. It may be fun to watch but with VW buses bringing $55k plus this show is and remains to be a joke. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif |

If so, that is a pretty cool car...maybe not $140k cool, but still cool! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
I think there is a slightly different make up of buyers. Many are getting away from the number's matching game and are buying cars they want. Period, for what ever reason. They're not idiots or inept they just have the dough to buy what they want. Car's that look cool and haul ass and they're willing to pay a decent price for "what they want".
For example: 115K Custom 70 Challenger 110K Hemi-Cuda Clone 165K SS Motorsports 69 Camaro 115k Blown 70 Road Runner Those are all strong prices if you ask me. I think it's good thing JMO |

Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
The guy who dropped half a mil on the "first production" TBird (serial number 005) is going to be upset when 004 (which was found back in the 70s) parks next to him at a show. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/ooo.gif

Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
I had a goofy observation. What was with all of the people wearing sunglasses in the place tonight? The president of Barrett Jackson guy, the lady that was the owner of the 0005 1955 T-Bird, Richard Petty, others? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Was that old 80s song, I wear My Sunglasses at Night paying in the background?

Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
Random thoughts. Seems like custom is in,stock is out. Sadly there really haven't been a whole lot of pedigree cars rolling across. It's to be expected I guess the pro's are keeping their good china for a better economy. That 89 Milford LT5 car Charlie was bidding on was my fave of the night,he was smart to take a pass it was getting way overvalued.
The electricity wasn't there like in years past. You can't manufacture it-it's either there or it's not and from what i've seen it wasn't. CJ looks emotionless. I'm tired of the sunglass Steve show with his condescending hold and pump diatribe(well really it was old three years ago)the money is either there or it's not. When that CVC Eleanor clone with A/T pulled 220k with vig,I turned the TV off. Looking fwd to some good football tomorrow! |
Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
Interesting on the 004 car:
"My father used to own p5fh100004 thunderbird. We were all just watching the auction and barrett jacksons careful choices of words used to describe the first "production" thunderbird. He found 00004 in 1972. If you just saw the auction, they showed all the documentation which was done pre 1972. Not having known otherwise, you would think that the earliest t-bird just sold. I wonder if the new owner knows of 00004. My father still has the old owners cards and serial number traceings of the 00004 car." http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forums/sh...3474&page=2 |

Stock isn't "out", and many of the "pedigree" cars aren't there at B-J. Not a good time for the "real" cars to go no-reserve. |
Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
The discovery of TBird 0004 was documented in the Early Bird (the monthly mag of the CTCI); I've still got the issue somewhere. I think it was white with a period custom interior at the time it was discovered. 0004 made the auto show rounds and supposedly was used in several advertisements in late '54. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif
0005 looked to be a top notch restoration, but (IMHO) it's tough to justify the premium price given the known facts. |

We do like to poke fun at those Chevy's with the stupid sticker https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif But I have found it is a nice Red Flag, along with the upside down cowl seal, when looking at these car's. Along with those two items mentioned you will usually find many more problems with a given car. Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
I am curious to see what kind of money the 200 Mile GNX brings on Sunday; This is the Poster Child on how NOT to store your classic car. The car has some “Serious Rust Issues” on the undercarriage. I hope anyone who is going to bid on this car got on the ground and looked at it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
I agree some minor surface rust is expected on a 22 year old car; But this 200 mile car was not stored correctly and then they painted over some of it with a rattle can. Mine has a 1000 miles on it and the under carriage still looks new. Someone was willing to spend 95 K for this car.

Re: Cars to watch at Barrett Jackson
It killed me watching Craig Jackson tell the bidders that "some of these cars are way under the money." Says who?
It was nice seeing lot 1010, the 71 Black GS convertible be picked as a fantasy bid car. Car brought 138k plus commissions. Not bad considering I believe it was a non-stage 455GS with a Stage 1 455 put into the car! Patrick |
