Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
Just noticed this post. Restoration is going great! I pulled my heater box this weekend and the number on the box "24" does not match my VIN "929", but close! I have other loose heater box with "69".
|
Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
Thanks Kevin - as you can see in this thread, there was no consensus on the purpose of the numbering system on the heater boxes. Most of the heater boxes have numbers, so it must have served some purpose at the assy plant, but we haven't identified that purpose.

Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
What paint did you use on the frame? Is it powder coated?

I love it!

[ QUOTE ]
That's a long story! When the whole world knows that you are restoring a valuable car - "original" parts seem to come out of the woodwork! Several people have contacted me about the original trans. I got what I believe to be the original from the same guy that had the rear. I don't believe that it's a restamp. Also,The 660 case die cast date code is perfect for my car. I've attached a photo for all of the gurus. [/ QUOTE ] I know this may seem a little late, but I buy and sell a lot of Muncies (about 80 a year) and this 1969 stamp doesn't look like the M21 stamps that I have ever seen. I have to dig up some past photos for comparison but that B definetly looks suspect. And 95% of the Norwood vin stamps I see are gang stamped. I know anything can happen but still.... See attached and make up your own minds.... -Matt http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...o/IMG_5636.jpg http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...o/IMG_3770.jpg |
Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
Thanks Matt - Yeah - It sure isn't a perfect stamp. On the other hand, if someone was restamping a case - it seems like they would make it perfect. I'm sure that there are lots of gang stamp holders out there. I'm certainly no expert, that's why I'm posting everything about this car. I appreciate everyone's input. This reminds me of my original LS6 block that had the vin stamped upside down. People who looked at it told me that it couldn't be original - then we found out that 100s of them were stamped that way!

Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
A couple more pics - note the body stamp with the one "0" higher then the rest of the numbers - common? Both stamps are the same.

Took a few pics of the resto today. Lot of work since last update, but somehow it doesn't look like it! The engine is on the dyno and should be ready for install late next week.

Who does your motors Bruce? Sam

Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
Krimes Automotive up in Ephrata. Ron is an old school BB Chevy racer. I won't be racing this car - but if Ron builds it - it will hunt! Also has a state of the art dyno at his shop. He only took my engine to 6000rpm on test. It registered 457hp - still pulling hard when he shut it down. He got 474hp out of the motor in my green copo, but it was +.030. I've heard of these 427s getting higher hp on dyno, but Ron's machine is new and certified for accuracy.

Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
Yeah - those 427 big blocks pull really hard. The one in my clone has a very mild cam, stock intake, carb, ignition and still pulled 474hp 497tq at only 10:1 compression. It runs great on pump gas, still idles and snaps your neck back when you stomp on it.

Re: Restoration of burnish brown RS COPO
The car is almost complete. Just finishing up a few interior things and waiting for the pin stripes. A couple of pics below:
