Re: Impala-Thon in Philly
I was going to go. I was ready for a good, no crap, no reserve auction. Now seems like there are lots of strings being attached and contingency guidelines being instituted as the auction approaches??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gifCan you spell SHILL Bidders... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Impala-Thon in Philly
It gets even more interesting.......
Compare these two photos of the '61 409 2x4 car.. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...6cylenblem.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...k348emblem.jpg Notice anything different? I wonder how that 6cyl trunk emblem suddenly became a 348-409 trunk emblem?????? Like I said...........certainly no hanky-panky goin' on here......... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif |

seen Vern, talked a few mins.
really wasnt much there, unless you were into scrap metal. every car outside need a basket case, plus most had no title plenty of the stuff was mis-labled. (291 head as `66 corvette head https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif had a `70 casting date!) ('61 6 as BB)( Pg car as 4spd) (Bill Grumpy BBC head HA Ha Ha... World casting oval port no porting )etc etc. i spent about 15 mins inside and 5 outside, then hit 95 south to Tony Lukes for lunch https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif, Chic cutlet with prov cheese & broc rabe. mmmm day wasnt wasted at all |
Re: Impala-Thon in Philly
I went to the motors first and checked every one, including the misc bare blocks. 1/2 of them were low perf 348s and a lot of those were truck. OF the 409s, only 3 were not truck. There was a '64 340hp, a '65 340hp and a '62 409hp (original deck with a St.Louis VIN.).......(no Z-11 codes there)
The motor in the 6cyl '61 "409 car" was a QA block with a Tarrytown VIN. IT had an X on the front so it was either a '63 or '64 400hp (couldn't see the casting number on the back). Most of the loose parts were pretty junky (IMO), but I paid no attention to the small block stuff. Most of the "good" cars inside were very worn out originals or had missing or changed parts on them, although most had very solid bodies. Clearly the best car there was the Azure Agua '64 SS Sport Coupe. It had it's born with 409/340 and a 4-spd with an unmolested deck and the Tarrytown VIN on it. It was a very uniquely optioned car. It had P/S & P/B but no tinted glass, 1-spd wipers and no radio (originally). There is an aftermarket radio in the dash now and someone cut a hole in the quarter for an antenna. It had a poor quality repaint, the white interior was dingy and worn. The car basically needs it all to make it nice again, but the kicker is it's an original transistorized ignition car! Those cars are exceedingly rare and I've never documented one like this one. All the original engine equipment is there (not even missing the little stuff). It had the correct shifter and tach. And yes, even the original ignition amplifier was there. I was able to get all the inside cars documented, but there was a 30mph wind across the parking lot and I couldn't hold up to it to doc the junk cars out there.
