Re: 1970 Monte Carlo SS 454 LS5, # match Blk/Blk/Blk
- So, if you can't remember Z and N codes, but you can remember a xx year old block pull, but *dont* have *time* to pull and post pics of your "supposed" 4 speed monte, I don't have a whole lotta belief in this 4 speed thing.
2nd - No where did I say that there is 100% no way. If fact, I even stated that it seemed that if you knew the right people you could get almost anything. Finally, my point stands, if there have been 4 speed Monte 402's that have shown up, why not any 4 speed SS's? Same points with the LS6. If the number I was given years ago of only 4 being produced in canada I know the faith of one what are the chances of finding one of the other three. The codes mean nothing to me since I don't follow Monte's which is why I had the letters wrong.About 10 years after I parted the car I discovered what it was but it was too late.I remember every BBC engine I had and still have.My mind is still good thank god.And I remember like it was yesterday that code on the cowl tag which is why the guy went through all the trouble of removing the body from the woods. Having time to pull the block it is not my problem, no strength from battling cancer is my excuse and I cannot lift even one head off the pile to look. If you want to look I think it is buried under these heads. http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...t=102_9977.jpg Someday someone will clean out the barn and it is there with probally two other 70 LS-5's in that pile and more in others. You believe what you want but I know I parted a original 70 ls-5 4spd SS.I will make sure you get your vin number then so you can change the record books. |

Joe,
Sorry to hear about the cancer. I apologize and retract that request to pull the blocks. Sincerely, Rich |

Sorry to hear about the Cancer as well. Just recently coming off Chemo, I can tell you I had the strength of a new born Babe. I could barely move a big block head, much less a block. Good bless and I pray that you too win your battle.
For what it is worth, approx 13 years ago I was asked to inspect a 1970 Monte Carlo SS LS5 4 speed, for a dealer. Even though we had never seen one before, it was no big deal. Cool car, but no big deal. Copo Chevelles and LS6s were less than $50k and people/collectors were just starting to really take notice, of those cars. It was a triple green driver quality car. All original drivetrain, CRN code on the block, 3.31 posi, factory tach, buckets and console, no A/C. We looked for a build sheet and were not able to find one. The car appeared to be an original 4 speed, along with the correct dates, part numbers and stampings. The car sold for approx $8,000.00. The dealer has long closed down and I have no idea where the car went? Look at that '69 GP 428 4 speed that I sold earlier this year. I had mumerous emails/calls from Pontiac Guys telling me that such a car had never been built, even though other examples do exist. |

Joes example stands out to me,because if he can retrieve the CON VIN,(either off the block or from what's left of the vehicle itself),he can submit it to George Zapora @GM Vintage Vehicle Services in Canada for quite possibly a full confirmation.

Re: 1970 Monte Carlo SS 454 LS5, # match Blk/Blk/Blk
Thanks Stefano for sharing your experiences.Sounds like you are beating this beast which is great to hear. I am hoping to do the same. Like my wife says I went from a race horse that could out work two men and a boy to a donkey over night that a baby could whip.
I know what the monte I parted was and wish I had of left it together. Same time it was just driven daily through all of the severe NS winters with all of our salt on the roads so it was rusted to death. I talked about it last night with my brother who at the time was living home and helped me part it. He remembered me tossing the rear since it was not posi and didnot have even 308 gears and the fact it had no smog and no heat stove to the air cleaner. I am not going to up set the GODS once again with your 69 pontiac 4spd 428 but like you I know that car also existed. Not going to mention names but did you sell yours to a guy that curently has a real nice restored 69 442 and a 71 4spd olds. If not he has one also original that he is restoring and we have been in contact when he was looking for parts since there was a guy with one of them up here at that time.I remember it well since it was the first GM car I had seen with a electric rear defogg which was pretty cool in a 69. Rick you are right about the docs for the canadian car.Like I said we have to get into the stuff eventually so now I have two blocks to look for. The one out of the 70 monte 4spd and the 4 bolt 512 oval port out of the 70 Impala. |
