Ok this sounds good I have oval port heads on my 68 and would like to put a 163 intake on it. What intake gasket set do you use, oval or rectangular.

Use the rectangular port gaskets or you will have a huge air leak. Snap an oil shield under the intake while you have it off. Keeps hot oil off the underside of the intake. Block the heat crossover as well.

We are doing this exact combo on Benjamin's Nova, but with a little higher intake manifold! How much impact does the oil shield and blocking the crossover have?

Fun topic, I'm enjoying this. Nobody can tell the oval port heads from the outside, either.

This is a repeat from another thread -- I have done the exact thing on a .060 out 427 ... it ran great. The reason? Got a hell of a deal on the intake -- had a cracked bolt hole and bolt twisted off in the thermostat housing. TAZ

There is a visual difference on square port heads. They have a tab cast on the outside parting line on the ends. But who cares if it is what you want. I ran a square port intake on oval port heads and I ran fine.
