In rough shape and sitting a while makes it more unlikely but search the glovebox area, under any junk inside, carpets, headliner, door panels, up in the dash area looking for build sheets, POP's, old insurance slips, service records, letters.....don't forget to pop the back seat....may be old wallets and condom wrappers? . Pop the trunk, any old licence plates....I'd expect the dual exhaust bumper is gone w/ plate attached?. Check the door jamb for old lube stickers....sounds goofy but a service shop who used to do the oil changes could have the Vin on file....and one of these cars could be remembered! . Any of these cars in an Olds registry living in this immediate area??? . Good luck! ~ Pete

The primary location for an Oldsmibile Vin on a Lansing built car is on the frame rail,typically drivers side facing outward but could also be on the top of the rail over or near the rear axel. Body would have to be raised or off to find the Vin. Extreme rust on rail may preclude finding the vin. I am not aware of Oldsmobile stamping avin on the body (this was a Camaro practice I believe,or plant specific and not the Lansing plant.)

There is nothing left of the car except the shell. There were no decals on the inside of the doors or any other signs of POP/build sheets/etc. I was unaware about the VIN on the frame rail in the rear but by the pictures as you can see its pretty crusty. Neat car, even in the junk yard. Mark

<font color="purple">Chapter 23, VIN stamping

There are only 4 VIN numbers stamps on the Lansing built cars in that era: the two on the frame, and one each on the engine and trans.
The body only had the rivvetted on VIN plate and the blue sticker in the door jamb (can't remember which year we started that, 1970?) I was responsible for VIN stamping from 1968 to 1973 on the Olds assembly line in Lansing. The bodies weren't serialized from Fisher body. The body as received was treated like another purchased part. You can put that in your pipe and smoke it as far as rebodying cars. Should a person with a heart transplant go get a new social security number?

VIN number on the frame were rolled on with a large pneumatic fixture with numbered wheels that were indexed for each car sequentially. One at the front was rolled from front to rear and the one behind the rear axle was rolled from the rear to front. Operator indexed to the next sequential number with a lever. Only reason there were two was in case one was incomplete or illegible. Frames had hard and soft parts as well as weld spatter that interfered with the rolling process.

The stamps on the engine and trans were a hand held fixture that was smacked with a BFH. Numerals (and the M letter) were individual and manually inserted in the fixture.

I've known of 3 very rough 69 Hursts over the years. One was in Illinois (could be this one), another was sold here by a friend of mine and got "lost" in shipping, and the third was the one for sale at Norwalk a few years back. Only the one at Norwalk looked savable to me.

My guess is Mopars and Camaros had other stamps on the body because they were unibody or partial frame cars. These changed from year to year back then as big brother lawyers in Washungton began "helping" us design the cars with help from their lobbyist buddies, of course. </font>

Cool find is right but a somewhat sad story as it all seems like such an idignity to what this car deserved. . At least it has the '63 Biscayne and maybe '72 Chevelle that loose grille is from for company?

That pic of the car w/ the Hurst door logos is very neat....that isn't sweet Linda is it? . The driver's wife looks like Lucille Ball....probably there to keep his eyes on the track and away from the top of the windshield??

Not quite....like I said before, if I had title to your car would I really be the owner? . It's like stealing something....having it doesn't mean it's yours. . To try your "idea" here, if rightful ownership is later in question, your documents from when you obtained the title are presented and you'd better have the right answers. . If obtained illegally you're trouble for not only theft but false documents etc. ~ Pete

Here's the deal; this car is sitting in the back of a 'body shop', no title, hasn't been reg. for better than 20yrs. Had the thing bought(money down, no, nothing in writing https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif), the shop owner did some kind of dealing with friends of his who happened to be Hells Angels members, there were a few arrests reported in the paper,some pretty gnarly stuff. Turns out it was the 'friends',and ever since we haven't been able to contact the guy. The car is still there but I fear the future isn't bright for it. I know of people who've gotten bonded titles on 'abandoned' vehicles that were left on private property so I'm sure it's possible, just like to find a way that's legal,yet,'under the radar'. I'm pretty sure all Olds Cutlass/442 had plastic inner fenders.. at least 68/69 do. W30 cars had them molded in red plastic. All others were black.
