I say it's satin finish. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

If you paint the tailpanel semi-gloss and wax the crap out of it for say....36 years what do you get? Gloss, right?

So which is it? Satin, semi-gloss,... or body color?

Re: Fact or Fiction......check this out

Why don't we get back to the original topic and start another thread about the correct tailpanel color?

How about someone answer this question. Someone emailed the seller and said [ QUOTE ]
It was a special order car and you could order the car anyway you liked. Also, the car could have been painted any color you want, it could have even been painted a Ford or Chrysler color.

[/ QUOTE ]

I asked the question [ QUOTE ]
Why then is there a paint code 51A on the trim tag instead of special paint code dash (--) found on any other special paint car????

[/ QUOTE ]

Can someone answer that question? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Fact or Fiction......check this out

Rick H, I agree it was always a blue car, with a 51A on the trim tag, there's no arguing it was originally that color...He may have been trying to say that a special order car COULD be a non-standard color, it just so happens that they chose a standard color for this car... I really don't know where he's going with that one, but as an SS396 car, the tail panel WOULD be painted black, regardless of color choice... as far as what % gloss of black, that can be taken that to a new thread if you wish. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

It's pretty clear.
The seller himself never states or suggests in his auction description that this is a special order paint colored vehicle.
Don't let that misinformed email from another,muddy up the the Dusk Blue water.

My survivor 69 lemans blue L34 has the tail panel painted identical to hotrodpauls's car. Also I inspected an original paint burnished brown x22 car and the rockers and tail pan were painted black. They did not alway follow the rules/documentation in production. Also I had original paint 67 tahoe turquois L78 and the tail pan was black.

Re: Fact or Fiction......check this out

I don't not if anyone brought this up but why does the trim tag start 12467? I would've thought that a 396 car's trim tag would start with 12437 regardless whether or not the rest of the tag is x's.

Re: Fact or Fiction......check this out

The car is a v8 convertible, so VIN is ok.
12467=v8 convertible
12367=6cyl convertible
12337=6cyl coupe
12437=v8 coupe

Re: Fact or Fiction......check this out

Rick -

I was wondering that same thing myself as well as a couple of others too. That's why I started the thread to begin with so others could see for themselves.

It's a nice looking ride with some incorrect items. I read the write up on it and saw things that, for me, did not add up correctly. As we all know a car is worth whatever some one is willing to pay for it. In this instance though, if you are looking to get the $'s this person is looking to get, you need to have a bit more back up and credible information as well as having those incorrect items correct.

I had heard about the XXXX trim tag cars before but the information was often second hand. I still don't have a real good understand on the history and background on these cars with that trim tag. If anyone can direct me to credible information I would appreciate it as it is always good to learn something new. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

I don't know why it has the 51A on it instead of (--) as well as a few other things. If a seller wants to get that type of price he really does need some better concrete information. With the prices going the way they are these days someone could easily get burned. For all I know, this car could indeed be a rare one but judging from the way it currently looks I think we all can agree it never left the factory that way.

Seriously if anyone has any info on XXXX cars I would enjoy learning about it. I tried CRG but my search came up with nada.

Thanks

Tom

It was already being discussed here and on camaros.net

Re: Fact or Fiction......check this out

Well, he honestly doesn't know the car either. He's posting second, third and fourth hand info and believes it.

He obviously has no clue about Camaros because in the latest Q and A he doesn't know Jerry Mc.. Anybody into Camaros knows him.

The guy is drawing at straws and hoping for a huge payday.

Think about this. With no body sequence number, no build date, no assembly plant code, and no paperwork, that trim tag could end up on any early 1969 V8 Camaro Convertible.
There is nothing that ties the VIN to the trim tag.
This is definately a sale that needs paperwork to affirm the big money that will be spent to buy it.
