Not trying to prove it. Not trying to sell it. But...I am pretty comfortable with the possibility that I just may have something special here. And besides...what other explanation is there? What other GM winters dual plane hi rise intake manifold looks just like it in almost every aspect? Why did this part become reality? For what purpose? The expense of casting it Had to be justified somehow. And the "coincidence" that the 1966 introduction of the very first Z cars...with their unique intake (different from the 69-72) corresponds to the date on these 0- manifolds, is enough for me. It just seems obvious. Maybe I'll never know...it's still badass!!

Anybody see any other 0- manifolds like this in that time frame with different configurations ?

I'll put my worthless 2 cents in here. The runner design tells alot here. Don't pay attention to the 3 hole opening. The runner design is very very close to a 610 intake manifold. The date comes in close to Z development. They did use off the shelf parts for the Z, however, the manifold wasn't there yet. There had to be a missing link between the 490 and the 610 manifold. I think this is it. Remember, in 1967 the 396 069 intake went to a 2 hole opening. In 66 it was still a 3 hole 069 manifold. I can see this 0-117 manifold being the prototype for the 610 based soley on runner design alone.

Matt, I agree completely. It could have also been experimental for other things but certainly many key points were used in the production z manifold.

I agree completely, the big block and L79 intakes moved away from the 3 hole carb flange around the same time. I don't think your two cents was worthless...thanks for the support. I am going to try and find that old GM press photo of the early Z28 engine components all laid out...because that is where I saw this intake as a teen in the early 80's. The search continues...and the mystery remains unsolved. Ken
