Re: 1969 RS COPO EVERYONE HAS ASKED ABOUT. PHOTO!!!!
I would agree that that is what should have happened as far as RS emblem placement, and since this is a mostly original paint car then there is no question, However there was an awesome Hugger Orange RS COPO at the recent Vette Fest which has pictoral documentation going back to August of 1970 (I believe) which shows the RS script installed.
Just as interesting were the Fathom Green RS COPO by Berger and the X22 Trim Hugger COPO Camaro. |

I have an article from 1984 showing a COPO 427 Camaro RS with 20K miles original paint and it has the rally sport script on the fenders. The guy has documents on the car sold from LB Hartman Chevy in Salamaca NY. The owner states that he talked with the dealer who told him they sold 2 427 COPO Camaros in late 69.

Every RS COPO that I have seen that was unrestored had the Camaro fender scripts instead of the Rally Sport lettering. Now this does not mean that some slipped through with it, but the norm is the Camaro emblem on the fender. Check out the attachment of the Lemans Blue RS ZL-1, that car is unrestored and it has the Camaro emblem...................RatPack.................. ...

Re: 1969 RS COPO EVERYONE HAS ASKED ABOUT. PHOTO!!!!
The old sayings apply, no one knows it all and the factory could be relied upon to do things the wrong way.
What I don't like is when people have a documented car which came one way from the dealer or factory and change it to meet the current accepted standards and just please 'Judges' or so called experts. If you can document it and want to keep it that way then go with it. If your out to please the Judges then that is OK too. BTW, Clill, the finger print/swipe on the backside of your ZL1s deck lid cannot be factory correct it does not match the one on Barnhardt's ZL1 A COPO which the factory never was to have made, and thus shouldn't exist is an X22 Super Sport COPO Camaro. I certainly would like to own the awesome Hugger X22 COPO shown at the Vette Fest, especially since it is one of one |
Re: 1969 RS COPO EVERYONE HAS ASKED ABOUT. PHOTO!!!!
It's possible they came both ways. There have been COPO Chevelles found with 3 different type steering wheel emblems. The assembly line people may have been confused on what to use on the COPOs since there were so few built.

The white RS is probably an Emmert COPO.
Cool reunion of RS Camaro COPO on this thread. Turquoise RS ZL1 RS Berger Gold RS Emmert White RS. |

There were two RS COPOs at the recent Vette Fest. A Fathom Green Berger RS and Pat's Hugger RS.

That white COPO RS appears to have the rallysport script, not the Camaro script. It's hard to really tell from the picture though.
