Re: 1970 nova ss

I emailed the guy with car #1 two different times to see if he could send more pictures of the car and body tag as I was curious about the BB with A/C claim. The car is somewhat close to me so I thought about maybe taking a look at it. I never got a reply either time.

Re: 1970 nova ss

I personally prefer the '69 BB Nova to the '70 for the look of the engine call outs/side marker lights and the L78 looks best with the higher rise 163 intake versus the pancake intake used on '70's. Just my opinion.

Going to see my painter again this weekend. Hoping to have my '69 L78 complete by June.

Yes, the pancake intakes on the '70 BB's don't appeal to very many Nova folks.

Re: 1970 nova ss

Does anyone have any credible dyno info on what a stock '69 L78 makes versus a stock '70 L78? Someone once told me the 163 intake was good for 10-15hp over the pancake intake. But then again, the '70 would actually be a .030 overbore in stock form for 402 CID.

Seems like 10-15hp might be a stretch, but I gotta believe the 163 intake is better.

For a street driven car the difference will be minimal...last L78 we had on the dyno did north of 430hp with the flat manifold. I installed the 163 on our 70 L78 TH400 car...it looks cool, but I don't think the car is all that much faster. This article from Team Chevelle has some good info and an older thread from SYC...wilma

More value in a 69 no matter what the motor/trans combo is. My opinion!
On the BB intakes I would say you would not really feel it on the street.

430HP? This must be with headers and a good exhaust system.

Yes...headers on the dyno...stock 4492 Holley, factory distributor, fresh rebuild and maybe a couple of extra cubes

Re: 1970 nova ss

Like Tommy says headers, a curved distributor, some good Eric J. carb work and a good valve adjustment sure, why not!
That is what we did in the old days to run mid to low 12's in those L78 novas and camaros.
Add a 4.56 gear and some 7" cheaters and you are golden.
Who cares what it dynos? Tha drag strip is your dyno!
