Absolutely. Roy said it was a tough sell, but believed that, because NCRS was in a position to do this, they were somewhat obligated to the hobby. Of course, because it is so much more complex, that is exactly why they couldn't take it on for every car from 1955 to 1972.

It sure seems like I read a post from Jim Mattison a while back, stating that he had made a hell of an attempt to find the records, but was told by the higher-ups that they simply did not exist anymore.Sounds like the higher-up guy didn't know what he was talking about?

I THINK Jim was looking for paper records, i.e. build sheets, and all the info that Pontiac saved.
This info has existed all along. Not until NCRS pursued it for Corvettes a while back did anyone ever think it might be valuable. It is referred to as "shipper" info. And, it is ALL on microfiche only. That is part of what makes it so tough to get digital and searchable.

As far as I know, there are still no leads on paper records.

EVERYTHING is easier for the Corvette hobby because records for only ONE plant are required. Full size passenger cars between 58-64 account for 15 different assembly plants. Believe me, deciphering accurate data on those cars has been a huge challenge. 30 years of research.
Jim Mattison told me years ago that he had "some" information but it all resided at the plants, some of which have been closed for a long time. Is all that true? Who knows.
I'm afraid I'm going to die before these cars I love will ever have a route to define the real ones from the fakes.

Jim Mattison spoke at the MCACN in 2011, and stated that he had found where the records had been, stored in a warehouse in PA. Trouble was that he was a day late and a dollar short. Some bean-counter had everything destroyed because the information was obsolete, and not worth the cost of storage. These were the detailed records of all Chevy's built since 1948.
The NCRS info sounds like what the NICB report has, and not much more.

Drew, will there be a document validation service for these cars similar to what is offered for Corvettes?

The waiting is the hard part to deal with...the anticipation is killing me. Come on April...

Ok, it does make sense to start with this year and vehicle span as it is quite labor/equipment intensive to get the data digital and searchable. -start with what they project as the highest requested volume. As owners requests increase, over time I can see the data (years & models) available expanding. Thing is how long until then...

I'll work for them for a decent rate to help them with the 64-70 fullsize cars!
