Re: Holiday L78 Nova Sale...Back Again!
Here are a few more tidbits on the Red Car...
As I mentioned in the story, the original owner's wife couldn't deal with the 4 speed so he installed an automatic for her. Unfortunately he sold the Muncie that came with the car long before Frank bought it. However, Mr. Vanveen was able to locate a 1970 M20 out of a Nova..so, while it does not have the VIN it is as close as you can get. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-img_3231.jpg **I have made some contacts in Canada...maybe that tranny is still out there hmmm For you numbers guys... 12C build date on cowl tag 75/75 Cranberry Red 731 Black Vinyl Bench A-2 black trim interior...two exterior moldings Engine and rear match the POP Engine...correct $854 block cast K 11 9 T1125CKO pad stamp w/VIN Tranny...M20 Muncie P0E15A Tag #3952659 WB Rear... #3969341NF date L-11-9 axle tube CBT1219 1 E Bell Housing...#3899621 Cyl. heads...#3964291 both dated J31 9 Distributor...#1112000 9H20 Intake..#3963569 Alternator...#837 Carb..#4557 Nov/69 date Smog and TCS are all complete and correct including exhaust manifolds 5 blade fan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-img_3234.jpg |
Re: Holiday L78 Nova Sale...Back Again!
With regards to the original transmission long gone, how much does this affect the value in your opinion?

Re: Holiday L78 Nova Sale...Back Again!
Jeff...I really don't know...certainly a lot less than if it was the motor. With the ownership history, originality, paperwork and quality this car has...it probably doesn't matter that much at all.
Maybe a better way to answer is this...I've bought a lot of L78 cars over the years...when I looked at this car it didn't make one bit of difference to me. The 'story' of the car includes the tranny swap...back then, they were just cars...people did what they wanted to do. Hope that helps...wilma |

Re: Holiday L78 Nova Sale...Back Again!
Yep, the red one is my favorite too! Tom, does it still have power steering or was it removed for the resto?
|
Re: Holiday L78 Nova Sale...Back Again!
The power steering was removed during the restoration...as was the automatic tranny. The motor runs very strong...and the car has a great low end with the M20. Our black 70 L78 has an M21..big difference out of the gate.
I'll post a few more photos later... wilma |
Re: Holiday L78 Nova Sale...Back Again!
Thanks Tom, I agree with your answer also, when I bought my Z/28, the 2nd owner traded the original M-20 for an M-22 and it did not matter to me.

Great shot of Frank in his one car restoration garage. The last time I was in the garage the outline of the subframe was still on the wall where he leaned it up to paint it.
Tom, lots of luck in the New Year.....John. |
