Re: BEREJIK drag car

I have original ads in which the Berejik dealer was building all out Oldsmobile W-machines. Does anyone now exactly what kind of things they were doing back then? I imagine it was something similar to Motion Performance.

I remember a very nasty built 1969 W-30 at the Olds Nationals in 1983 that came from the Berejik dealership with those exotic headers. I know they were a huge player in Olds performance and directly connected to Oldsmobiles’ back-door program. I have heard George Berejik still has a large collection.

They were one of the Oldsmobile dealers offering the Shelby Series-1 cars with the Olds Aurora engines even into the 90s.

What a cool bye-gone era when America was great! Thanks for all the cool pictures!

Re: BEREJIK drag car

----Headers are "Tubies" ie: "Tubular Automotive". I think Andresen always used Tubies as did a bunch of New England racers. T.Auto. was famous for running the 1st two pipes forward and then under the crossmember. Road clearance was a real issue, but most of us just accepted it as part of the equation. Besides which,,,they just looked sooooo cool from the front. Tuby equipped cars used to scare the heck out of everybody even if you had a slug.......Bill S

Thanks so much for all the great information. I have always been interested in the Berejik dealership. It looks like Dale Smith was trying hard to keep the racers supplied even with all the opposition from GM.

Thanks also for the info on those headers. Those headers always looked so cool! I still vividly remember them on that Berejik prepped 1969 W-30 that I saw at the 1983 Olds Nationals. I know I still have a good picture of that car somewhere.

Marty, Thank you for posting the pictures! Interesting to see the grills sag in the middle and the ram air hood drooping on the drivers side even back then.

Re: BEREJIK drag car

----John,,,I saw your mention of all out Berejik race cars and couldnt help but remember a good friend of mine who bought a 68 Hurst Olds from Berejik and then proceeded to have just about every possible thing he could have done,,,done! Engine pulled and compression bumped along with serious cam change. Dual quads, gear change to 4:33s, good ignition, etc. Tubies and Corvair turbo muffs. Way loose convertor and serious shift kit. That thing was a bad machine.....Bill S

Re: BEREJIK drag car

Hey Bill…Wow that 1968 H/O sounds very cool! I have always thought the Berejik dealership built some serious Oldsmobile performance cars out of their dealership. That sounds very much like a Motion/Markowitz type of program. Thanks so much for sharing the story on the H/O. Too bad, there are no pictures from back in the day of the car. However, people very often did not think to take pictures back then.

Re: BEREJIK drag car

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of George Berejik. I was fortunate to have spoken with him one time at a large Oldsmobile gathering. He was truly one of the nicest and most incredibly knowledgeable Oldsmobile enthusiasts out there.

We spoke for a long time about his family dealership and all the incredible Oldsmobiles' that passed through their historic doors. He talked about his extensive Oldsmobile collection. He also spoke at length about his relationship with Olds engineer Dale Smith. He said Dale would provide him with any of his requests through Oldsmobile’s extensive back-door racing program. He said Dale would on occasion bring him to Olds experimental engineering in Lansing to see many of the Olds high performance projects he was working on including very exotic racing engines, transmissions, rear ends etc… of every design and configuration imaginable. He said Dale would supply his racing teams with serous hardware to always help make them competitive.

It is very sad news that Mr. Berejik passed away. He will be sorely missed by the Olds community. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
