Can you imagine paying 7K for a ZL1, and selling the engine, and then putting a 396 in her!

There were many 1965 Impalas ordered and purchased for the L-78 396/425 engine only. The motor was pulled and a 327 installed and the car sold because the motors were not available through GM parts and that was the only way to acquire a 396 "semi hemi" for your race car in 1965. I am sure most of these did not require a huge out lay of cash after the engine swap and after selling the original car. A friend of mine did that to a 65 Impala SS and swapped the 396/425 motor into a Henry J. |

I'm not sure which of the 2 Hauser ZL1's is for sale in this ad, but if the #4 car had a 396 installed before being sold then this one would be the #43 car.

Looks like the engine is back on the market.

If it's really the engine from #42, that's not a bad asking price. Would be a deal for someone with a ZL-1 who wanted an original engine from an actual car versus an OTC engine.

It is fairly priced but the engine in the photo is configured for a Corvette, not a Camaro. Several incorrect parts. Oil pan and balancer should be black, not orange.
N615242 was a race car from new, last seen in a National Dragster classified ad circa 1974. Probably still exists but heavily modified. |
