I wonder what the commuters in their wagons and 4 doors thought seeing/hearing a high rpm clutch dump and seeing that car rocketing down a city street.

My engine builder used do head work for Joel back in the 60's and said a lot of their cars started out as six cylinder cars. Buddy |

Not sure where you got that info from, but all Baldwin-Motion customer 427 Camaros started out as 396/375 cars. There was an active secondary market for the 396/375 takeout engines, no market for Sixes.
