The engine made a stop at Chris White's and is now on the way to Nickey in order to be reunited with the Chevelle.

Any offers from members before we list it on eBay? This Chevelle is simply amazing.

Pardon my ignorance on '67 Chevelles but if the block does not have the VIN on it, how do you know its the born with original motor and not a correctly dated block?

Was this car at MCACN 2011? If so, I remember it being fantastic!

How do you know that any block, even it it does have a VIN is the original engine to a particular car?

Many times you can never know 100%.

Approx 612 L78 cars were produced so there were at least that many engines as well as some warranty replacement blocks produced. Not a very large number.

This particular engine has a chain of history as being in the general vicinity where this L78 Chevelle was sold new.

I'm confident that it was not the only one built on that day, but it does match the POP.

What are the odds that an L78 engine built on the same day would be found in the same area?

I stated that this is "believed" to be the original engine to this car, but can't say 100% for certain. Anyone interested would have to check out the story and make a determination for themselves.

Quite a bit of time and work (as well as capital) was invested to track the engine down and while it does not have a VIN, the pad date and suffix did turn out to match the car and POP.

It was at MCACN II and III.

...Great explanation ..... You always tell it like it is.

This would be a car that any collector would love to have in his stable.

John thanks for the positive comments.

There were several plants which built Chevelles in the USA.

I believe all below built '67's.

A Atlanta, Georgia
B Baltimore, Maryland
G Framingham, Massachusetts
K Kansas City, Missouri
Z Fremont, California

This particular L78 was built at the Framingham, Massachusetts plant.

While it would be customary to expect the engine to have a VIN. I am not familiar enough with the time line and VIN stamping of each plant.

I have seen other 1967 Chevrolets (non Corvette) with original engines and no VIN.

There is such a small data base for '67 L78s, not many real, no questions cars to be had.
