Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
Adding to the Knafel story, besides Sabres Knafel also reportedly built/delivered 50 of their '70 Tempest 400 Post cars called Magnums!.
Click below... Similar to these were the Calgary Canada Stampede Pontiac's 'poor man's GTO' called the Jury, 1970 Post cars too & reportedly 26 built/delivered.. Lots more dealer specials also 'factory freaks' were built up here in Canada!. Dealer specials like the Conroy Cheetah Beaumonts, Mander Camaros, Mainway Mustangs to name a few, lots more too!. As many here are aware, even our Canadian B-Body Pontiacs were factory built w/ Chevy drivetrains including SB's, W-Motors and Mk1v's too!. Yes factory 409 and L72 B-Body cars wearing Pontiac clothes, not exactly common but built as factory RPO's.. Freaks?. Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
The more unknown the better. I would say unusual colors fit the "factory freak" definition perfectly. That being said, how about the 50 Bengal Chargers?

I believe that the majority of those cars were 318 and 383 powered base models. For even more freakiness, how about a Bengal R/T? |
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
I had to look for this one as I wasn't sure if I was remembering it correctly as a Knafel car...but it is/was!.
Much like one of Smokey Yunick's accomplishments, perhaps one of the greatest racing rule bending was Knafel using the Canadian Pontiacs having factory Chevy engines thing to legally run this probable L72 Acadian!. ~ Pete Info/Pic below lifted from a previous thread here; ...The Knafel Acadian ran in the NASCAR Ultra/Stock drag racing class where the rules stated that the car and engine had to be of the same make. Knafel decided to go with the Canadian Acadian so they could run a very competitive 427 engine and still be considered a Pontiac. Because the Acadian used a Chevy drivetrain, this was considered legal by NASCAR. I don't believe NHRA ever did recognize any of the Canadian Pontiacs. The photo below is from a 1967 points meet at Suffolk Raceway and the Chevy wagon in the far lane is Ted Hartman's "Bad Banana"... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...oc20dixon1.jpg |
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
WOW!!!! I wonder what ever became of that car?

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Fre
It was my understanding that none of the big Canadian Ponchos were available with the L72 - true? Kinda like the L78 for the Beaumonts.

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Fre
