Tom, you're right, we do have to be diligent about checking out the cars. The tendency is to trust the owner's claims, and frankly, most guys I meet are good, honest people.

this is a joke,right?

you feature a 67 442 in your mag that is "supposedly" a 1 of 1 Hurst equipped 442.it had el cheapo repop hurst emblems and the car had a column shift.

did you contact Hurst to verify this car was even made?

there were other examples, but this is the one that was so obvious a BS story,i just laughed when i read it.

Just so happens that today I get an email with a renewal offer for $XX.XX. Often times these magazines send out notices way in advance in hopes of getting you committed for long periods of time. I didn't know when mine expired so I called them to enquire. Turns out mine is in fact expiring in Mar/10. I was offerred a renewal on the phone which was considerably lower than the email offer.

Thanks MCR, keep up the good work.

Ed, thanks for the welcome, and remember I have first dibs on the red GTO.

Andy, I'm not joking when I said that we have to be diligent, and that most people I have met are good, honest people. Still have to stand by that statement.

I don't know the article to which you are referring, so I can't speak to it. However, my understanding is that the 442 L78 package added to the Cutlass Supreme in 1967 did not include buckets, so column shift was possible.

Speaking personally, not for the other contributors, a good backstory can make a case for putting a feature together on a car that might not be the highest quality restoration. I will often try to sell that story to Drew. We hear a lot of people interested in featuring "regular guy" muscle cars.

And we do feature clones because we see them as a significant portion of the hobby. At the same time, we would obviously decry anyone who would attempt defraud someone by misrepresenting a car.

Additionally, when I work with a broad range of cars, I'm likely to miss what others who know the particular car featured would quickly catch. But for discussion purposes let me ask you, would you pass on an immaculate, real deal car if you knew the engine paint was a shade off? Or if a few parts on the car were cheap repro items because the owner was searching for NOS items, or better quality repros? In all likelihood, I would still do the story, I'm hearing you say you would not do the story.

I respect your opinion and convictions on these points, they certainly warranted a response. If your in Chicagoland, I'll buy you coffee.

this is the car,it was featured in your mag back in summer of '06
a column shifted 442 that your mag said was 1 of 4 made(all owned by the same guy).
complete with a Hurst emblem from a Rambler on the trunk, and no Hurst equipment anywhere, and with a 455 that wasnt even made yet by Oldsmobile.

This is a highly unusual and very rare piece. It’s a 1967 Cutlass 4-4-2, one of four modified by Hurst to sell Oldsmobile on the Hurst/Olds concept, and powered by the 455-cu.in. four-barrel Toronado engine. This gem belongs to Douglas Alsip of Cincinnati.

Andy, I probably should have added that even if knew the article to which you were referring, I still couldn't speak to it. I certainly don't know the facts surrounding other stories in MCR. I have the highest regard for my fellow contributors, and I know that the scrutiny applied to my articles is consistent across the board.

I'd be happy to attempt to answer any questions about any articles I have written, my email is below.

Thanks,

Better yet...Andy, why don't you email the editor? That way your complaint will be heard loud and clear...

Re: Muscle Car Review Alive and Kicking

My heart did an extra beat when I saw the subject of this thread. I did just sign up for another 2-year deal that I got an offer on email of.

MCR is the best magazine, it has a mix of cars from all brands and I like when there is a special on some model, like the Buick GSXs recently.

I also like when they run cars that are not super-restored, just cool cars that are used and you can see it.
