I own it already. I just couldn't resist. I really want to keep it though as you just don't find anything like this too often. The older I get the less tolerant I am of cars that are perfumed pigs or handed around junk. But like everyone else I have a space problem so I might have to let it go, unless I can sell something else.

It all depends on how they were used and cared for. I have 2 lifelong Jersey cars that are both completely rust free. (and they're 5 years older than the topic SS396).
I have a '69 El Camino that grew up in GA and AL. It's had floor pans and the fenders and quarters are bubbling.

And as far as black paint is concerned, IF it had been repainted it would NOT look as black and deep as it does now. Since the '80s, no one has made a black paint as BLACK as the factories used back then. I've had my old beater, original paint black car next to a fresh $60K black paint job, and that car looks brownish-gray compared to mine. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

This paint is 47 years old. If I had it repainted, it wouldn't look this good.

Agreed!

But there is a reason. The base/clear coat systems in use today are fine for metallics and such, but a black car should be done in a single stage. This liftoff Bee I did last year is painted with Glasurit single stage acrylic urethane. It is absolutely stunning.

I have the original order form. The car was bought in Westchester County NY some 10 miles from Tarrytown. Guy traded a 65 T Bird towards it.
