I was standing behind the starting line at the Atco WCS meet in 1970 and was talking to Dave Strickler. While we were talking, Tony Pizzi came up for a record attempt and ran 11.68. Dave said "He just screwed himself, he will never run that again."

The following week Strickler and Jenkins were at Delmar for a match race with Al Joniac and Tony was there as well. Again, Strickler and I were standing behind the starting line when Tony came up for a time run. I asked Dave what he thought Tony would run and he just shrugged and said "I don't know." Damned if he didn't run an 11.68! Dave walked away shaking his head.

This is a late production car built in September (I think) 1969. Brad thought he was getting a 1970 car as that was the traditional time for new models to be released. The 1970 bodies didn't come out until after the first of the year.

Charlie Hampp bought this car from Sport Chevrolet and drove it home. It had about 80 miles on it when they started the race car prep. It was one of about 600 SS cars built with the 375/396 and 4 speed. It was first run in C/S with a Pizzi engine and later in SS/E.

The Wheatley Bros. car usually ran SS/D but had a hood scoop added for AHRA GT-1 competition, which was enough of a modification to put it into NHRA's C/G class. It ran about 128 MPH which was close to the C/G record.
