If you find a 69 Z/28 with it's original drivetrain and documentation that doesn't need much sheetmetal work for under $22k, I would be quite surprised. Ya, it's gonna be hard and would up the amount I could pay to around 25k depending on work needed. Hate to spend close to 30k and then spend another 10k on body and paint. When you add up all of the other needed pieces and machine shop work, trans rebuilt, suspension, correct numbers parts needed, you get the idea, now you are over 50k easy.

You may be right... however I believe solid lifter, matching numbers, no excuses cars are going to hold their value...

The market is just fine on documented, original drive-train cars. The guys who are complaining about the market seem to have non-matching, un-documented hot rods that missed the mark by a couple of years. If the market is bad, where are all of the cars that people are bailing on?

My suggestion to you is to buy a finished non-Z28 or lower your expectations given the price range you're after. Again, just my $.02 Ed

I am not sure I would say that the market is just fine, even for documented cars. I do agree that documented cars will bring more than clones but I can tell you that the market is a lot slower and also weaker than it was 1-2 years ago. There has been a correction in the economy, housing, the stock market, and collector cars. Mean while the cost of living has increased. Over all I think it is a good thing that we have a correction in our hobby. I myself am one of a hobbyist that enjoys the hunt, the restoration, and the enjoyment of ownership. It needs to be affordable for the masses IMO.

I understand that there are quality projects out there for around 30k or even more, but I bet if you ask around you will find some that have paid around 25k for their real Z-28 projects. It really all depends on the condition of the project and the seller. There will be those that will need to sell a little less than market value for various reasons. If one of those are out there I hope to find it.
