It's not a great movie. But it is a good movie. I originally saw it in a theater in NYC. I got my notice to appear for the draft. This was before the lottery. I was living in Liberty, NY. It was supposed to be a down and back bus ride but they didn't finish my physicals so they put me up in the Soliders & Sailors Hotel. Nothing to do in NYC for the night. Started walking and came across the movie. Said "what the hell" and went in to see it.

I enjoyed it as a car guy would. It was fun seeing rock and rollers as actors.

Ran into an old friend at the POCI Widetrackers Dustoff show yesterday:

I was visiting with an older gentlemen and this car rolled in and he said "ah - there's one of my favorites".

I said "oh - I've had a couple of those.. (squinting) ..in fact....THAT WAS ONE OF THEM!!"

This car belonged to my dad. He rescued it from a field in Oregon, intending to make a Super Duty clone out of it. Unfortunately he passed before he could make that particular dream a reality.

When he passed he gifted it to our friend Ed Lear. Ed has been working on it all along and now has it in driveable condition.


I haven't seen this car in probably 17 years.

I don't think dad would love the "rat rod" aesthetic.

That's the former George Delorean Super Duty coupe.

But - it suits the old car, and it suits Ed. It's working for him, too, as it is proving popular and he won his class yesterday. (Note: I didn't).

This has a 326 auto, and the swing axle intact. It also shows what Ed can do when he puts his mind to it.

I still remember when dad brought the coupe home.

He parked it right in Mom's spot in the garage.

She was pissed. Here was this junky thing with a milk crate for a seat sitting on two flat tires, sitting in HER spot.

Dad was elated. It had good glass and was a perfect starting point. He was walking around, whistling, totally oblivious.

I'm not judging - as soon as I'm done typing this I'm moving my racecar into my wife's spot in the front garage.

We had an opportunity to buy the Delorean coupe, back in the 70's or 80's, for $3600. Dimitri Toth and Mike McCarty had just pulled it from an apple orchard.

Dad declined, since it was still in baskets.

In his defense, had it bought it it would probably still be in baskets.

----Keith,,,My friend in southern California, Jay Lindsley bought one of Mickey T's Super Duty Coupes from a used car dealer about 4 or so blocks from MT's shop for a bit over or under a grand (can't remember). He bought it to drive on the street, but found it just about useless for that and sold a short time later. This goes back to 64-5 timeframe. Jay is one of my older friends that is still above the earth, and is a typical south Cali guy and just steeped in hot rod history and still messing with cars!

Those look good too. An improvement over the factory wheel wells. Always reminds me of a 55 Buick.
I still like the Nomad wheel wells best.

First time I drove my first 69 Z/28, I drove it home from the shop where I was working to the house..... sitting on a milk crate! It was about a 20 mile trip.
