How would you order a 69 SS without the stripes? Was there an RPO code or would the order be a COPO?

It's crazy how a small packaging error can translate into a six-figure price tag 50 years later, but that's what happened with one recently discovered Hot Wheels. Joel Magee, The Toy Scout who has appeared on shows such as Pawn Stars, found the white enamel Hong Kong Chevy Camaro Hot Wheels. It's valued at more than $100,000. What makes it rare is that it wasn't supposed to reach customers. It was a prototype for designers who'd coat the new cars in white enamel to check for imperfections. Only a few were known to have reached retailers.

It's going to need quarters.

That's a good question. D90 striping was included with SS equipment. I don't believe we have a known stripe delete example in the CRG db. Fisher Body had no involvement with the D90 stripe so it would not have affected the paint code.

Joe Oldham's famous black Camaro SS was regularly featured in the east coast pulp car mags back in the day. Motion also used it in their ads. He wrote an editorial about the difficulty he had ordering what he wanted: black, no D90 stripe. Chevy refused and it was delivered with the striping. He later removed the striping. Vintage pics show it both ways.

one of my best friends has a 69 ss 396/375 conv red with red houndstooth and is a "stripe delete" car. its still original paint and he has had it since we were young.

Mr70 02-07-2020 12:30 AM

Could you mean Orange Houndstooth?
I've never seen or heard of a red one.

Charley Lillard 02-07-2020 01:18 AM

I’ve heard of a red houndstooth car.

muscle_collector 02-07-2020 02:12 AM

I just asked him to shoot a picture and he corrected me. this one has red deluxe comfort weave. one he used to have (not a big block car) had the red houndstooth. sorry for the mixup on this car. but it is a stripe delete car.

Is that a GM styling car? If so, still around?

Or, is it a one off custom?

It's a clay model - destroyed after it was nixed.
