Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Hey guys -- saw a link to this thread from the Team Chevelle forums. All I can say is "Wow." I've always been fascinated by photos like these.
Anyway, just thought I'd post some pics of my find from a couple years ago. This is a highly-optioned, triple black, 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo SS454. You can see it was a Vigilite optioned car as well. Approximately 3800 SS's were made that year. Car was in real rough shape when I got her, with no engine or trans. The pics don't show just how bad the rust was, and it had been hit in the rear, driver's side at one point. I found 2 build sheets the first day I had her. Did a frame off restoration, dropped in a built 502, new TH-400, and lots of NOS parts. Had to quit the project for family reasons at about 90% completion, but my buddy bought the car and finished it better than I ever could have. Below are the before and after pics. Some of them do get saved!! http://www.pbase.com/natez/image/40939677.jpg http://www.pbase.com/natez/image/40939736.jpg http://www.pbase.com/natez/image/40939718.jpg http://www.pbase.com/natez/image/97481947.jpg http://www.pbase.com/natez/image/97482119.jpg http://www.pbase.com/natez/image/97482289.jpg |

Welcome to the site Nate. Do you have any pictures of the in progress restoration of the Monte?
What is the story on the triple white SS454? Perhaps an LS-6? |

Welcome to the site Nate. Do you have any pictures of the in progress restoration of the Monte? What is the story on the triple white SS454? Perhaps an LS-6? [/ QUOTE ] As Bruce pointed out above, my Chevelle is an LS-5 (360HP) car. I searched for nearly 5 years for a triple white Chevelle. When I came across this one, it had an incorrect black interior so I almost passed it over. For no particular reason, I asked the seller to give me the cowl tag info and to my surprise it had a 791 (bucket, ivory) interior code. Within a week, I reached an agreement with the owner on a price. As of yet, I've still not gotten around to putting the right interior in it, but hopefully this year. There's always something that comes up that makes me put off doing the upholstery. It is numbers-matching with the exception of the trans (which is a TH-400 out of a '74 Corvette), and the hard-to-find 1111963 distributor is also missing. As for the Monte, you can look at much of the restoration work here: LINK The vinyl had destroyed the roof, so an entire roof skin swap was done, and new vinyl was never put back on the car. I think it looks much sharper without the vinyl myself. It received NOS front fenders, doors, quarter panels, trunk lid, and seat covers, to name a few things. It was a frame off restoration as the pics show. Take a look. Thanks for the warm welcome! ~ Nate |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Really cool Chevelle too Nate!
|
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Very nice and extensive restoration on the Monte Nate and it turned out great. As for the Chevelle, get the white interior back in it. That is a very rare combination and one that has to be seen to be appreciated.
I have two of those 963 distributors if interested. |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Seldom seen... those Monte's are neat!
Congrats on the save and the finished product. |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Rick, I completely agree with your comments about a white interior. Hopefully this Fall will finally be the time to get the pearl interior in. Also, I sent you a PM regarding the 963 distributor.
Thank you for the compliments on the Chevelle, everyone. I would've liked to have kept the Monte Carlo, but a family emergency came up and I had to let one of them go. Such is life, and family is always more important than cars. I have to mention this about the Monte: my buddy (Vaughn) that bought the car is the definition of a great friend and a class act. He knew I had no choice but to abandon the project (due to family reasons) after 2 years of hard work , so he told me he would finish the resto and he did so consulting with me so that the car was finished the way I envisioned. He also told me I can buy the car back within the next few years for what he paid me for it + the amount it cost him to finish the job. No profit on his end. Unfortunately that probably won't be possible, but I couldn't be more happy that he has it now. It is in great hands. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif And I never would've met him if it hadn't been for this great hobby. ~ Nate Z. |

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
[b] This one is a real shame! This was a 1953 Allard Palm Beach. From 1952 / 59 there were 80 of
these built. They were powered by a British Ford Consul 4 cyl. This was one of only 8 that were powered by the smaller 1.5 liter 4. This is what they looked like. - - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...tos/allard.jpg - - Sometime in the sixties the 4 cyl was swapped for a Chevy 265" mated to a 4 speed tranny. In this configuration it was raced at Watkins Glen and several other tracks. About 2 years ago the barn that this was in burned to the ground. The heat was so intense the body completely melted. In cleaning up afterward the frame was cut in half with a sawzall to extricate it from the collapsed barn debris. This is what remains - - - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p088.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p077.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p078.jpg - - If you look closely you can make out the dual quads among all the melted aluminum. - - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p076.jpg - - You can see portions of the tranny melted also! - - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p079.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p092.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p093.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p081.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p090.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p089.jpg - - The presence of an oil filter makes this a '56 if it is a 265". http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...hotos/p089.jpg [/ QUOTE ] The heads look like they have the "double smokestack" markings on the end, which were correct for a 57 2x4's engine (cast 3740997, big $$$ heads). |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Here's a doozy. This car has been sitting in that driveway for almost 35 years under several car covers. I went past thus car hundreds of times as a kid and never noticed it. A buddy took me to look at it two months ago and I could tell it was a Challenger and the slots and Mickeys were visible under the bottom of the cover and the stubs for the rear spoiler were visible. I told my buddy to go talk to the guy and see if he wanted to sell so my buddy went by last week and the owner pulled the cover off and let my buddy shoot these two pics. The owner has plans to (finally) have the car sent "back east" for restoration and NO it is not for sale. They are out there and often right under your nose!

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
That's not a Hemi Challenger; that looks like a 73 to me.
|
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
It is most definitely a 1971 Challenger R/T.
As evidenced by the unique 71-only tail lights, the 70/71-only side marker lamps, the 71-only quarter panel louver, the 70/71 high back bucket seats, the unique emblem hole position for the "426HEMI" emblem on the hood, (though the "426" part is broken off), the 71-only R/T upper quarter to front fender stripe, the 70/71-only Plum Crazy paint which looks to be original by the way it is sloughing off the car, the 70/71-only rear bumper without the jack cutouts.... If real, it's one of 75 built: 58 4-speeds, 12 automatics and 5 exports shipped to Canada. |
