Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the IndyCar Series have been sold to Penske Entertainment Corp. in a stunning Monday announcement that relinquishes control of the iconic speedway from the Hulman family after 74 years. Tony Hulman bought the dilapidated speedway in 1945 and brought racing back to the corner of 16th St. and Georgetown Ave. after a four-year hiatus following World War II. The speedway spun off multiple other subsidiaries, including the IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Productions, which are also part of the deal to Penske Entertainment. That group is a subsidiary of Penske Corp., which is owned by billionaire Roger Penske. |

This car brought back a memory . . . I turned 18 in May of 1969. Was shopping for a muscle car with a $2000 price limit. I went to Monticello often and there was a Chevy dealer on Main Street. On the front line was a car just like this one . . . sort of. Same color exterior and interior except it had a bench seat with a 3 speed manual. If I remember, the only options were the stripe and a AM radio. The car sat there for the entire summer and when the new 1970 models came out, it was still there - brand new, never been sold. |

Cause determined in Jessi Combs' fatal speed record crash Jessi Combs’ fatal high-speed crash was caused by “a mechanical failure of the front wheel, most likely caused from striking an object on the desert,” according to the Harney County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon. This information comes to us two months after Combs’ tragic accident on the dry lake bed of the Alvord Desert. Combs was 39 years old. The investigation concluded that the front wheel failure “led to the front wheel assembly collapsing.” The sheriff's department says this happened at speeds approaching 550 mph. Both the Harney County Sheriff’s Office and the North American Eagle Race Team collected evidence from the scene to come to this conclusion. Her cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head, which happened before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. No other official information regarding the crash was released. |

Use ceiling fans in your home? Now is the time to flip the switch which changes the rotation of the fan so that air circulates upward. This redistributes the warm air, which can save you on heating costs. |

Before lighting the first fire of the season, enlist a professional to inspect your chimneys and flues, as well as clean them, if necessary. This will not only keep your chimney working well—but also keep you safe. If you neglect the condition of your chimney, it can cause a fire. |

The standard engine in the 1968 - 1970 Charger V8 was the 318-2V. For 1969 & 1970 there was a Charger Six which had the 225 Slant Six as the standard engine. These are very rare - only a few hundred were made (for both years). The only optional engines were the 383-2V and the 383-4V for the Charger (V8 & Six). |

The Dodge team and their SRT colleagues in Auburn Hills have once again thrown the gauntlet down to their crosstown Motor City rivals in Dearborn and Warren. It’s also appropriate they use the 2019 SEMA Show to unveil this newest weapon, whose sole mission is to destroy the competition. Make no mistake, the 2020 Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is ready to go head-to-head with the Mustangs and Camaros in the hyper-competitive NHRA and NMCA Factory Stock wars. This fourth-generation Challenger Drag Pak has come a long way from its humble roots as a roller package car in 2009 that the customer had to finish. Judging by what we saw, this Mopar monster has new and improved blower package mounted on a GEN III 354ci HEMI that’s pushing more power than ever before. How much you ask? Let’s just say it’s well above 1,500 hp. Dodge will build 50 of them. |

Mid-Engine C8 Corvette Production Postponed Until February 2020 When Chevy first announced the long-awaited mid-engine C8 Corvette, it said the car would be arriving in customer's hands by the end of 2019. Well, that's no longer the case. A Chevrolet spokesperson confirmed to Road & Track the C8 has been delayed until February 2020. The delay is a result of several factors. A six-week UAW strike meant the end of the last-gen C7's production would be pushed back. Moreover, the Bowling Green assembly plant needs additionally time to retool its facilities, as well as hire and train a second shift. |

An 11-Car Garage Mansion In Laguna Beach Is Going To Auction If you happen to land the jackpot in the near future, this luxurious oceanfront mansion nestled in Laguna Beach, California, and surrounded by 20,000 acres of protected wilderness. Sure, an oceanfront view and 900-bottle wine room are some main selling points, but this insane home was dubbed a "collector's dream" by the auction house because it features an underground garage big enough for eleven cars. This insane piece of real estate named "Maison De Cap", meaning "Cape House" in French, sits on Smithcliffs bluff with a view overlooking Emerald Beach, and it last sold for $11.7 million before selling for $10.7 million back in June 2018. https://www.motorious.com/articles/n...garage-mansion |

Why the new Corvette doesn’t offer a manual transmission After taking six decades to move the Corvette to mid-engine, Chevy ventured beyond clutch pedals without hesitation. Corvette executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter tells those who bemoan the lack of a manual transmission in the new mid-engine C8 that requests for a dual-clutch automatic (DCA) began years ago. The stick-shift take rate, by the way, fell from more than 50 percent at C7’s 2014 launch to less than 20 percent this year. Add to that the DCA’s ability to upshift without interrupting power delivery, a feat no manual gearbox can accomplish. Juechter also informs skeptics that a clutch pedal would cramp the C8 driver’s-side footwell, and that routing shift linkage through Corvette’s tubular aluminum spine would compromise its structural integrity. Instead of following tradition, his engineering team sought out and implemented functional improvements whenever possible. https://www.hagerty.com/articles-vid...l-transmission |
