Thanks guys, but I'm actually ahead of you on this one....lol... I contacted one of our Ohio buds, Rich ((Mr Chevy) who has the clamps on his Nova. He hooked me up with his bud and fellow SYC'er Steve, and he will be making me a set of the Harrell type clamps.
I'm also looking for a set of the shear pins that would hold the tow bar to the tow tabs, just for show purposes. I understand one of the SYC'ers has had them made in the past, but so far I've had no luck there. If I had a picture of the pins, at least I'd know what to shoot for. I was also having a problem with the Nova sitting low on one side, but I had the front end alignment done, and it bounced around in the trailer going to the shop and back. Then it's been driven a couple times, and the car sit perfectly level now. I think the leaf springs just had to be "broken in"..... |

You're right Sam. I'm not crazy about how they look, hanging down as much as they do. But it's certainly a possibility.</div></div> A necessary evil Bill if you wanted to go fast and try to eliminate wheel hop in the old days. I never had one bottom out on me since I started using them in 1969. Kinda rounds that Day-2 look off also. Your nova would even look meaner than it does. |

Ok, Big Steve fabricated a set of the Harrel style spring clamps for me. They're on the Nova, and they look great! I can still put traction bars on the car in the future. I'd just flip the spring clamps over. Thanks Steve for your help, much appreciated!!

when you are ready to put the bars on Bill just take the spring clamps off. Only reason Harrell put spring clamps on instead of bars is because they probably cost him about $2.00 back then instead of about $50.00 for the Lakewoods. They will stiffen your springs but will not work like a traction bar with a snubber. "Big" does good work as usual!

Actually, when you flip these over and use them with slapper bars, the snubber hits the clamp and not the spring. With a standard length Lakewood ( snubber doesn't quite hit the spring eye) you won't get S bends in your springs . It tends to plant the rear a bit harder. Add some shims to adjust the bar angle and almost zero gap the snubber. You'd be surprised how well it will launch. Straighter as well. I've been running this combo on my 68 for years. I'm not gentle with it. With slicks, your grabbin. Cars use to,and still do, fly with this old school combo.
Ever set up a Mopar with spring clamps and a snubber? With a 6 K launch, you 'd thought you were rear ended by semi! Drive em hard! BIG |
