Yep, me too. That was drag racing's best era as far as I'm concerned. It's no coincidence that it coincided with the supercar era plus a few years afterwards.

Here's a nice shot of Dennis Ferrara's Camaro at Suffolk circa 1970.

Thank you, Pete. I'm just going through my massive collection of automotive photos I've collected from Usenet (remember the newsgroups?), Yahoo! groups, forums, web sites, etc. these past 20 years.

Lots more--and I mean lots more--really cool photos I haven't seen in years and most likely neither have others. It's time to share! Lol.

Looks like it to me. Or they copied Shay's Camaro's paint scheme. It's definitely one or the other.

Shay Nichols is thought to have raced ZL-1 #5 N608381 Dusk Blue auto. The car in the photo with her has a white standard interior; no production ZL-1 had white standard. There are better photos that show the same interior. Would a ZL-1 have run in C/SA?

Either she didn't have a ZL1 or they had two race cars with identical paint jobs.

That's Shay in the pic, compare to this below article including ZL1 reference as posted last year in the old newspaper thread.

You're right, no ZL-1 would've or could've raced in C/SA (if indeed that is what it says on the windshield) but you have to remember that those were AHRA classes which were not exactly on par with the same classes as in NHRA as well as more liberal and were allowed more (non-stock) modifications as compared to their NHRA counterparts.

To the best of my knowledge, Shay only had one ZL-1 Camaro.

As late as the '90s, what remained of ZL-1 #5 was still around as a tube-frame race car. Original block was still with it. Maybe someone knows the car.

Both Jungle Jim's and Bill Jenkins '69 Pro cars had ZL-1 engines but were not part of the production run.

That very well could be the case with Shay's Camaro.
