Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Aloha, I found that pic of your car online and posted it, hope you don't mind.
Your car has always been one of my favorites since I saw that movie when I was a kid. |

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
How rare are these valve covers?
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/use...708238073_69663 Thinking of getting them Rechromed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/use...74122993160_837 Only other pair I've seen. And I got the pic from Faecoobk. Google brings nothing. |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Not Rare at all. Very Common 80's style GM Performance catalog item.
Available at any GM or Chevy Store through the 90's /early 2000's. You'll see a lot of these at Swap Meets. save your re-chromeing $$$. |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I love a lot of the custom C3's and that one is time-period cool.

Thanks, I think so. The wife, however, likes the old higher air cleaners, lol.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
----In this picture of the Scuncio dealership the door for cars to the showroom is just to the right of the brick wall. When I test drove Scuncio's ZL1 it was right inside the doors. The salesman talked to the manager and they opened up the doors and brought it out for me to test drive (with the salesman in tow, of course). I have to say I was underwhelmed although the car sounded great. If I knew then what I know now I certainly would have tried to dig up the money, but it just didn't seem any faster than a 396/350 I had driven from another dealer in Falmouth Mass, and the car sure wasn't fancy (stripes, chrome, etc.) so I passed, doh! Performance was probably stifled by the puny 2 inch exhaust, and who knows what the tune was right of the trailer.
---- Sorry for the side trip......Bill S |

From 1971, my L72 Biscayne at Cornhusker Raceway near Omaha. Headers, Hurst, Sun tach, scattershield and slicks. Doing my best to make my current Biscayne like the old one. And fender flags changed from 427 to 307....

Car was originally a 307 auto car with manual drum brakes, perfect for a drag car. National Speed Shop in Canoga Park, Ca. built the car and used it as advertisement at the drags in the early'70's. I first saw the car in my high school auto shop and had to have it. They dropped in a built big block (who knows what it had) a 4 speed and the 12 bolt with 5:13 gears. To think I traded a guy a '72 Yamaha R-5 in good condition and $1700 cash for this monster amazes me. The sound of the Purple Hornie's could be heard for miles. (Sorry Mom) The picture quality is bad but thought everyone would get a kick out of this. Oh, the valve covers. That's another long winded story. |

A right side pic of a blown apart left VC. errrrr Upside down, backwards........ Lol Ok .I'll look for the long winded explanation |

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread

A buddy of mine was trying to set the timing and was busy moving the distributor around. I was sitting behind the wheel pumping the gas pedal and we got ignition and a huge backfire through the carb. It blew both valve covers off and removed all the facial hair from my friend as his head was under the hood. I just threw the valve covers on and pushed the car into my backyard. Bought a new set of valve covers and had it towed to a speed shop to be dyno tuned. It was my first car. I drove by my buddies house one night and he was on the phone with his girlfriend and she said was that Bart's car? lol The car coasted so good that late at night I would cut the motor off 1/2 mile from my house and glide into the back yard. |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Cool story , zHot subject....
Education for how not to preload the cylinders with foot stomping fuel...... Coasting it, did you ever refire it and blow the mufflers apart ? |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
No, never needed to, but I used to do that in my Mother's Toyota. Pump the gas and turn it back on and BAM! Backfire! lol good times.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Nice Nova! The speed shop installed a real deal SS hood on it rather than just drilling holes for the hood louvers!.
