More progress to report, but only a few pertinent pics.

The deck lid is back in place. The tail light extensions are fully assembled and installed for good. Bodyguy also got the bumper gaskets stapled in place on the rear body panel. The rear rims have been painted as well, fronts are to follow shortly.

Hinges are painted in. The trunk will receive the correct spatter paint soon.

The trunk actually sounds like a new car trunk when you close the deck lid now. I'm so diggin' that.

BodyguyS were just starting to fit the rear body panel trim when we left today. I'll be back out Monday-ish to disassemble the lower dash so Bodyguy can get it painted along with the rest of the interior this week. Tentative plans are to get the window molding clip studs installed and have Glassguy come out next weekend to reinstall the glass.

More soon.

Re: Chevelle updates

Boy has this been a looooong week.

I went back to the bodyshop last Monday and got the dash disassembled so Bodyguy could get it painted along with the rest of the interior. When we arrived today, Bodyguy had just started reassembling the freshly painted dash, and I could tell by the look on his face he wasn't getting anywhere quickly. Rachel and I dove in and got the dash reassembled in relatively short order so Bodyguy could move on to installing the car's second reproduction dash pad...which of course, fits only marginally better than the outright garbage pad I got stuck with the first time around.

(The original dash will eventually find its way to Just Dashes...had enough of this repop crap)

Once the dash was assembled, Bodyguy and I got it in the car and loosely installed, whereupon Bodyguy #2 finished the install.

Bodyguy did manage to get many of the window molding clips installed, but there's still plenty more to go.

To backtrack a little;

I called a restoration house Monday to re-order the correct fasteners for the side emblems to replace the incorrect fasteners I mistakenly ordered last week. As fate would have it, there was some confusion on the order which meant that the parts didn't get shipped until yesterday.

Shocking, I know.

I called another supplier Tuesday to try to find some used replacement front & rear window moldings and the side headliner moldings--mine were just too battered to save. Again, as fate would have it, we weren't able to source anything in time, so we wound up having to go to a local restoration parts house to pick up $300+ worth of new front & rear reproduction window moldings...

Here's the rear moldings...

Do I even need to mention how the initial test fit went?

As such, Glassguy wasn't called in for this weekend since the new moldings are going to take some tweaking to get to fit...maybe next weekend, who knows at this point.

On the plus side, Bodyguy got most of the interior painting done, got the pass. side glass and the door window fuzzies installed along with most of the side weatherstripping, and he also got the rest of the rear panel trim on, and despite it being repop, he's got it fitting better than a lot of the OEM trim I've seen.

So close, and yet still so far...

More later.
